Beernoser's Bad Neighbor League Topic

I have the pleasure of daggering redcped in this round.

His teams:
1944 St.Louis Cardinals
1974 Milwaukee Brewers
1964 Houston Colt 45s
1924 Cleveland Indians

The Cardinals & Indians are loaded with awesome hitting & decent enough pitching. The Brewers & Colt 45s are pretty bad, but have players that can fill a roster.

I have chosen to dagger the least expensive .900+ OPS regular hitter in the group. Say bye-bye to Glenn Myatt C of the 1924 Indians.

The 1964 Colt 45s missed the Dome by a year. The best stadium to dagger is League Park (Cleveland) and its +2 singles & +3 doubles effect going to the stadium graveyard.

oh crap. I'm in trouble because I thought the first dagger was a player and the second a stadium. If I am reading right, it's 2 players and 2 stadiums? uh oh. Anyway, _jwillis has
74 Braves
54 Orioles
64 A's
24 Robins
From what I can see, he needed bats with his last pick and got a few really good ones with the Robins. However, without Jack Fournier, he is light at 1B so Jackie gets his pink slip. That also takes away the Robins best HR hitter. The Braves have some HR hitters so I'm going to take away their park, Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.

Once we've been daggered once, do we post the team we want to be daggered in the second round?

Yes - you can post your second dagger team target once you've ben daggered once.

Hope the thread doesn't get too cluttered.

OK, boss. This one is for you to dagger me.

Please select from the glorious talent of the 1964 Houston Colt 45s.

My turn to give a dagger to reddtrain who has:

1924 Reds, 1974 Indians, 1974 Tigers and 1974 Reds. The 2 Reds teams that he chose for himself have a lot of useful parts and the other 2 gift teams really do not. He only has 5 total players at 3b and at SS so eliminating the cheapest one of either deserves a look. Getting rid of his cheapest SS only costs him $1mm and this cheapest 3b would cost $2.2mm. However one of the 3b he could keep would be Driessen who has position flexibility so the waste factor may be limited. He has 1974 Bench which is almost $8mm by himself but his options at catcher are pretty versatile. At 1b he has a lot of flexibility and enough cheap backups. He has some good pitching from the 24 Reds and a couple of usable 74 Reds and the Perrys from the 1974 Indians. Nothing from the Tigers. Gaylord is by far the best pitcher on the entire staff but I built pitching with and without him and am inclined to let reddtrain decide what he wants to do there. Then there is 2b. If he uses 74 Morgan, there are 2 backups availabe at $500k. The choices at 2b from Clevland and Detroit are pretty weak and the 24 Reds have 2 decent guys but not great.

I really don't think I am going to be able to force his hand by playing the salary manipulation game with either hitting or pitching so he will have to say goodbye to 1974 Joe Morgan because he is a good affordable player.

Will update soon with stadium

Update: Riverfront Stadium (home of the 74 Reds) is now off limits.

dagger for midknight:

64 Twins
64 Red Sox
34 Pirates
64 Braves

player:
I looked at your pitchers first. it doesn't take long to get rough looking but nothing there screams, "take me!" so i moved over to your hitters. first i checked the big bats at the big bucks. it seemed like one of them might be the choice... until i noticed something when looking at arky. you only have 4 total short stops. not one of your teams had a back that is an official ss. none. you will have to roster two of them. and only one has availability at multiple positions. with a dagger removing Denis Menke your options are to leave arky on the chopping block and roster two full time right handed ss a combined $8.6m or keep him and spend $11.5m for two full time short stops.

stadium:
you do have some guys who can hit hr's but it also looks like you will have to roster some pitchers who could end with sore necks. how about we take out county stadium (64 braves) and their negative hr numbers?

Ouch!! And I was hoping Menke would slide under the radar...

kentol, I guess I will offer up the 74 Red Sox as the team you can dagger.

Landry you may dagger someone from the 1944 Blue Jays

My dagger for eman is MIL 2B Danny O'Connell. I think you have adequate depth in most places, and 2B seems the one where the quality of your alternatives drops off and alternaives create complexities.

My stadium dagger is Griffith Stadium (Senators) since the others are similar (and WIS already denied you a stadium for the Milwaukee Braves lol).

I might regret a season of pitching to Mays but you might regret what including his salary would do to your roster.

3day rotation did a nice job on the first dagger for midknight of Denis Menke and was kind enough to point out his resulting situation with limited SS in his writeup. midknight has offered the 1934 Pirates roster for the second dagger. Do I look any further? For the sake of due diligence I checked all 4 rosters and noticed a lot of SPs over 160 IP/162 with an HR/9 over 1. Like almost everybody from any of the 3 1964 teams. 1934 Pirates pitching is pretty poor all around with the exception of 1 HOFer. Not only is 1934 Waite Hoyt the best ERC+ SP with over 160 IP out of any of the 4 teams but he has a 0.28 HR/9 allowed. Looks as if midknight will have to "Waite til next year" to use him since 1934 Pirates Waite Hoyt is daggered
