Capital Athletic Conference: Year 12-pres Topic

Postview commentary added in bold
CAC preview. Season 16. (my 8th at Catholic)
Player of the Year: Michael Castelli (Chestnut Hill). Sophomore Ridinger from Saint Mary's could challenge. Castelli fell to HM. That's what you get for counting on a SIM AI to get the best player the ball.
Rookie of the Year: Has it come to this? The rookie of the year could be named Rufus. Pitiful. Either Campbell from CUA or one of Marymount's diaper dandies could edge him, but no one will put up much better than 14 combined PAR. Shelby Cunn had a really nice year. I was way off here.
coach of the year: Time for an upset. Sir_slam edges me out. Just looking for something a little different. Not a bad one to be wrong on, at least from my perspective.
1st team all conference:
PG: My mancrush, David McCann from Goucher. Got third team. He's really the best. And he's so dreamy.
SG: Joe(l) Horn from York is the favorite here. 2nd team.
SF: Real from York, though if Ledoux gets his mpgs over 22 or so, he takes over. 3rd team.
PF: Two guys deserve mention. Roger Adams from CH and E Wood from Goucher. I'll take Adams, but I really dislike counting on the mindless automaton that is Sim AI. They were an HM and 2nd team. I had a big swing and miss on Cottingham.
C: The two POY candidates I mentioned above. 2nd team and HM.
By far my worst preseason picks; looking forward to next year. Gallagher (CUA), Ridinger (SMM), and McCann (Goucher) are the pre-preseason favorites for POY.

You put quite some time into this Andrew, its pretty obvious. Not too far off for the unpredictabilty of the SIM, etc. Tho based on where you had Marymount in your preseason prognostication, I like me for COY - LMAO! ... your expectation was pretty high. Granted, meeting high expectations is tough too! ... LOL - unless they are paying for COY, cant say it really means a lot to me tho.
As far as Cottingham is concerned, Im guessing the previous Marymount coach didnt use him as well as he could be. He exceeded some of what Id figured hed do, but compared to the other D3 teams Id had, this has been my most complete player. Add that to the declining incoming Frosh the last few seasons, and the timing was right for him.
I see some good potential @ Marymount, and if i can get into the NT, and somehow get a nice little run of some sort to continue getting some good recruits here. My current plan is to stay here, and not move on, so we'll see how it goes.
BTW ... doesnt the bible has some sort of thing about coveting "dreamy" players?????? - LMAO!!

You can think I didn't use him as well as he could be if you want, although I strongly disagree, especially when you factor in the differences in the players (especially Tosh) that were around Cottingham last season and this season.

Sr.29/2826.555.8-74.93.710.60.82.41.30.83.317.6
Jr.30/3025.353.9-73.73.38.10.52.01.10.62.713.0
He had slight improvements in FG%, FT%, STL and BLK with more significant improvement in PTS and REB and a decrease in performance in regard to TO, playing about a minute more a game. The bigger differences directly relate to frontcourt depth - Andreas Tosh was, I believe, the number 1 option and a great rebounder. His numbers in the records for the school don't really reflect his performance in his senior year (Cottingham's junior year.)

In any event, I think Cottingham performed about where he should have this season - especially in light of what I felt was a terrible recruiting class in my last season at Marymount - Didn't get enough help and had too many walk ons.

Nice work this season, don't think just because I I stopped paying attention. I'll enjoy seeing Marymount on the list of Dynasty DIII schools - hopefully you can keep them up there.

LOL Urdanick ... its nice to know I have a friendly "ghost" helping me oversee the Marymount program!

As far as Cottongham was concerned, I obviously dont know what he had with him last season, it was tough to really compare. I took andrew's comments that he was not used much despite what were this season nice skillsets. If he had a complimentary running mate last season, they both were huge Id assume.

As far as getting Marymount to dynasty status, that obviously would be nice, but Ill need a few more pretty good classes to start seriously competeing with Catholic year in, year out. Im hoping, but we'll see how this seasons recruits look, as this will be a key season.

Unfortunately it has been a key season for about 3 years - a good recruiting class my last season there would have gone a long way toward being able to consider Marymount the cream of the CAC crop. It will be tough to ever take the North crown away from andrew though. Who knows. Keep up the good work.

Mixed bag in my offseason improvements. Big disappointment in Campbell with a good WE, and he played 20mpg as a frosh last year. JWill, meanwhile, exploded and will now assuredly graduate as my highest rated player ever.

I dont have the fancy graphics (OK, OK, Im challenged ... or maybe I just dont care?? - lol), but here are my offseason improvements.
Richard +22
Chen +16
Barela +18
Rohe +7
Yarbrough +9
Jackson +12
McCord +12 (former walk-on ... now practice player)
Generally Im not as pleased as id like to be with these, still learning how previous seaon affects this area.

I forgot to record my final season player ratings - any way to go back and look once the offseason improvement takes place? Consequently, I'm not sure how my guys did, but based on my recollection, not real well, particularly considering the quality of most of their WEs.

Solid improvements for Just Win.
Rogue, I don't know how to check old ratings unless you save them.
If you want an excel sheet I and Rusticity put together to track improvements, send your email via sitemail.
It's basic but holds what matters.

Solid perhaps andrew ... but Im gonna have to get way more than solid if I ever hope to compete consistently and successfully with Catholic!
I dont like how my first day of recruiting has gone, but fortunately, its a marathon, not a sprint - lol.

Hey Guys - thought I'd check back in. As Andrew noted on the CAC message board, I took a D2 job at Clark Atlanta (my 1st D2 job in any world). I figured I'd go from the posh Maryland suburbs straight to the inner city! LOL.

I'm a little surprised no one took the VJC job since they would've had the opp. to recruit a lot of their own players, but I guess there isn't much talent .

Anyway, GL with this season and I'll be checking in periodically. Unfortunately, I have no one to "ghost" like Urdanick. LOL.

I see in SoCal conference, they wanna SU a conf challenge .... do we wanna try it? I know Catholic has taken a couple whippings from redlands ... do we care to try?
We can all join Andrew - lol

As stated elsewhere, this is a solid, but not dominant class with MAJOR defensive issues. It will be a great perimeter shooting class at the end and Thompson and Varela are the 2nd best rebounding pair to come into D3 this year. The WE are all nice, which is a plus, but their academic records range from sketchy to terrible. I think Thompson is a future 1st team all conference and Varela could be. Rieves is the logical successor to "Super" Mario Wright as someone who can play really well on 1 end of the court. Coffey's REB prowess is a plus.
