there it is. Two different Philly bloggers/beatwriters confirming that Flyers are considering offering $115 mil for 12 years ($9.58 AAV) w/ a full NMC. If that doesn't spell elite - I don't know what does.
Cmon moy...if a big contract makes an elite player, then Brian Campbell, Rick DiPietro, Chris Drury and Scott Gomez are all elite players as well.

Every argument you made against Toews can be made against Stammer in different ways.
I'm playing man. well not about the offer report from the Flyers... just the elite because of pay part. If you haven't figured out that we are just going to have to disagree on toews being an elite player by now.... come on ;)

lol...I actually agree that he ISN'T...at least not yet. Give him 2-3 more Cups, another Gold Medal, and a career ppg average and I think he'll be there. I'll let you know in about 15 years :-).

HA !!!! ..... 2 to 3 more cups... not with the hawks.... maybe after 4 seasons when he is an UFA!!!

Hey Trottier didn't win ALL his Cups on the Island...:-P

Anyways the Hawks have nothing to worry about...no NHL team in their right mind with 2 good, young cornerstone players would simply blow it all up and let them go...wait...

Too late... Toews and kane are well into their NTCs.

I kinda feel bad for Carter.... the Columbus night life is gonna suck. Its no wonder he holed himself up in his beach home for 5 days and spoke to no one after he heard the news. 11 years must feel like a death sentence.

Could be worse, at least he has Rick Nash...he could have gone to Florida and played on their top line with Tomas Kopecky!

ESPN Insider (from Today)

'Hawks are reportedly "frustrated"

10:58AM ET

If you're to believe Troy Brouwer, the Chicago Blackhawks may not be the happiest bunch.

The Chicago Tribune reports Brouwer, now with the Washington Capitals, said he was disappointed with the ongoing break-up of the squad, and some of his former teammates felt the same way:

"I kind of thought they would make more of an effort to try and keep the team together, but obviously that's not the case," Brouwer told 'The Danny Mac Show' on WSCR-AM 670. "And I've talked to a couple of guys on the Blackhawks currently that are a little frustrated with how everything is going."

Brouwer also implied he wasn't happy with how frequently coach Joel Quenneville juggled the lineup last season.

Yeah I read that...Afcorse they're frustrated, but I'm sure all the players saw this coming. They're not dellusional.

Also, If you read all of his comments it sounds like sour grapes to me. He wanted and thought he was going to be a staple in the top 6. When he couldn't produce consistently (along with the injuries), Q juggled his lines to find someone who was a better fit in the top 6 which would allow Brouwer to play in the bottom 6, a role he's much better suited for.

I wish him well, but I think he over-values himself just a tad.

That was my take.  Figured I'd throw it out there.

ha ha. stamkos IS elite. Even if Toews wanted to he couldn't score 95 goals in 2 seasons.
And Stamkos couldn't be as complete as Toews even if he wanted.

I'm not sure if that offer moy posted would be approved by the league.  They shot down the Kovalchuk contract last summer.

ha ha.  I totally forgot complete players don't need to score points (i.e. score goals or help their teammates score goals).

kovalchuk was shot down because the last X seasons were for like $500k while he was 40 some years old.    Stamkos would be 33 at the end of a 12 year contract and those final seasons would be for much much more than $500k.   They can't go more than $12.5 mil in any season per 2011 league rules... and at a 9.5 AAV that means they probably don't go lower than 6-7 in any season of that contract.

Yeah, I forgot that they pulled that 500K per **** w/Kovalchuk's deal.

I totally forgot that finishing 12th in the league in scoring isn't worth a squirt of ****.
