If you've actually watched Brunette, you'd know that he's anything but soft. He's a bit of an ironman in the NHL missing only 14 games in the past 12 seasons and being quite productive during that span as well topping 50 points in 8 of those seasons.

He's also a versatile player who can play LW or C and move up and down the lineup.

But today I don't wanna talk about the Hawks. Did the Capitals hit a home run with their goaltending or what?!?! I can't believe what they got for Varlamov and then to add Vokoun for 1.5 million was simply unbelievable. Add to that the additions of Brouwer and Joel Ward and the fact that they kept Laich and this team looks poised to finally take the next step.

I wouldnt expect anything less of you and Muddy Andru..you will always build up these softees now that they are Hawks..Why has Brunette moved around so much ? finisher yes? but why does he never get paid his due? lot of question marks ? he is soft ..but good luck with him

I keep looking at the Hawks roster... and I can't help to notice how pathetic it is.  you guys are blind if you don't see that.  your d is worse without Campbell and Campoli.  Your forwards are worse w/o brouwer and kopecky.  You have 2 goalies with 1 season of 'combined' nhl exp.

All the good FAs are taken -  I don't know who you will sign that will make this team a playoff team, nvm a stanley cup team.   There is not a ton of high quality trade value on the team either - unless bowman trades a core player.   which, he will not.

I'm calling it now - Hawks are an 8-12 team this season.

Hawks as is are a 6-10 team in the west... just like last season.  If you are content being on the bubble every season then leave things like they are.  If you want to improve you need to make some unpopular moves.  The team needs TOUGHNESS (i.e. physicality) above all - but it also needs true Centers, 3rd/4th Liners, PKers, and a 3rd pairing on D.  Trade Kane and Campbell (~$14 mil each season in cap for 5 seasons) and get more players like Toews that come to play every day, every shift... that play physical 2-way games.

However --- this is my prediction considering how pathetic management runs this team - everything stays the same except they deal Brouwer (high physicality, low turnover player) to free up cash to sign more crap players like last seasons end of the bench.  Thats the exact opposite of what should be done.  Mark my words.  western conf 6-10 team again and they will deal Brouwer (for less than he is worth because of the injury) before the season begins.  Take that to your CI buddy and tell him thats how to make predictions ;)
That "pathetic" management is still the defending Cup champs.  I agree with a lot of what you said, but describing them as pathetic is, well, pathetic.
well....  I told you so

I'll put this one right up  there with "Campbell is tradable" and "Hawks will be a 6-10 seed in 2010-11"  Its like I know your team better than you guys do, LOL

Also - me thinks there is something definitely wrong in that locker room in Chicago.  Brouwer was happy to get out and bad mouthed the team.... Campbell waived his NTC despite getting married to a Chicago chick this year.  Campoli, Frolik, and Stalberg have not re-signed.  No big time FAs even considered CHI - at least that I could determine.

I don't get the obsession with Campoli, Frolik and Stalberg.  These are guys who have proven in more than one place that they can't play in the league.  IMO Chicago was their last shot, and Chicago should rightfully be giving up on them unless they're coming in at less than 750k each.  Done.

No argument from me there.... what, stalberg 24 points, campoli gave up the big turnover to Vancouver, frolik had 9 points in 28 games with the hawks.

I was only making the point that I think the hawks locker room is not all roses. Granted.... the above three names are still better than some of the garbage they brought in .... carcillo and mayers in particular.

We did add a top 6 forward in Brunette, who should thrive playing with those other 5 guys.  We didn't need a top 4 d-man, just some depth.
If 37 year old Andrew Brunette is your idea of top 6 - you have proved my point that the hawks have a long way to go before becoming competitive again for a cup.

He's 3rd line material... at best.
You seriously underrate Brunette.
maybe - but then again I think a 39 yr old jagr is barely 2nd line material.
Brunette is renowned as a hard worker and clubhouse leader.  Jagr is renowned as a slacker on the defensive end and has never been cinfused with any sort of leader.

LOL....way to troll me.  Every expert has been very impressed with what the Hawks did.

I doubt you'd have the nuts to take me up on my bet of Hawks making the playoffs this season.

Bowman didn't want any big time FA players as we didn't need any.  We needed to get some character/grit and did that.  Our skill players are as good as anyone in the NHL.
