One more quick question:

Did the "HD Oracle Update Manager" run after starting the application
the one giving me the choice to repair or to remove?

it did when I clicked the download button from the website, but not when I tired to start the program from my computer

ERI is a player ratings index, much like the many formulas used by coaches across HD. It takes into consideration relevant ratings, offensive/defensive sets, and IQ. More information can be found in the user guide which can be found in the application directory.

Tanner,

Were you able to download any player information, or did this occur before it could successfully download?

before I could do anything, chose a world then a division and the error popped up.

How long will the trial be available? I'm contemplating a move from D2 to D1 and don't think it makes sense to download the trial until my fate is determined. Will it be around in a week or two?

The trial period will always be around. It lasts seven days after installation.

Looking into it now.. these issues are hard to get to the bottom of due to not being able to duplicate them on my test rigs.

I thought it was a 2 week trial. Is one week long enough to get a grasp on the product?

The promotion (price reduction) lasts two weeks. The trial has always been a seven day trial, and if I can get the kinks worked out for some users, then I feel a week is plenty of time to understand its capabilities.
