And most of the Bonds lovers will jeer McGwire when given the chance. What's your point? Defending your guy for something you'd flog another team's guy for doing is hardly a concept that originated with steroids.

Todd and Al Spot on. Could it also be a part of it that McGwire was always liked, and likeable, before the crap hit the fans, and people want to believe and forgive him? Where, on the other hand, people always disliked Barry and want to believe the worst and will never forgive him?

I hate to break it to you todd, but people's hatred of Bonds has little to nothing to do with steroids.

He's a cocky, self-centered *******

So was McGwire back in the day.

Maybe to the media, but I've never heard any bad fan reports about him. And he certainly (at least not openly) didn't put himself before his team every chance he got.

He was with the fans also.

Wrong, Bay Area fans know that McGwire was always surly and unfriendly (roid rage?). Oddly enough, most local media people actually thought Bonds was an easier and friendlier interview. He made himself accessible (in his barcalounger), while McGwire avoided the media and never gave useful interviews.

The national media (for the most part) were the anti-Bonds brigade. You have no frickin' clue how he was perceived by the media around here.

Yeah, he was an arrogant *****, but the local media liked him (kinda like local media always liked TO because he's always gave them something to write about).

Yup, that about nails it. Roidrage makes perfect sense for the way I've seen McGwire act on more than one occasion.

I never dreamed this was true but I believe it 100%.

So basicly besides being a cheater, McGwire is a phoney. And the people that see him the most and more close up know his true colors.

Yeah I believe that.
