I must say that this style of draft is my favorite that i've done! That being said i think the only thing that would improve it or make it more fair would be to randomize each rounds draft order. The only teams with a realistic chance at one of the great pitching seasons are on the ends. Maybe later on in the draft might prove this to not be true.

I'm definitely open to feedback around subsequent seasons. One thing that I was thinking was something like a 'carousel' approach:
  • Draft order in Round 1: A --> B --> C --> etc --> P
  • Draft order in Round 2: B --> C --> D --> etc --> A
  • Draft order in Round 3: C --> D --> E --> etc --> B
The only issue with this is... we have 16 teams, and there are 25 rounds to this draft. So what do you do about the last 9 rounds?

If we got to 24 teams, you could get much closer, and the 25th round could be 'special,' like maybe you get to twist off your own final draft pick for your 25th player.

But getting 24 owners to commit to a league like this seems daunting.

If this is the case, it's only because people are actively choosing teams to prevent good options for others. Which doesn't make much sense, IMO. I haven't given a single thought to what options I'm giving the next person. I just want the player that makes the most sense for my team.

I will also say that I think this hasn't proven to be completely true. Here are the 'best' pitchers taken by draft slot (I'm counting from the beginning of each round, so this is not 'absolute' draft slot but relative draft slot as a function of which direction the draft is traveling that round):
  • Slot 1: Jake Arrieta
  • Slot 2: Kyle Hendricks
  • Slot 3: Brandon Woodruff
  • Slot 4: Zack Greinke
  • Slot 5: Clayton Kershaw
  • Slot 6: Dolf Luque
  • Slot 7: Chris Sale
  • Slot 8: Gary Peters
  • Slot 9: Joe Horlen
  • Slot 10: George McQuillan
  • Slot 11: Gaylord Perry
  • Slot 12: Dick Hall
  • Slot 13: Dave McNally
  • Slot 14: Roger Nelson
  • Slot 15: Tom Murphy
  • Slot 16: Warren Spahn
So I think actually there's been so good opportunity sprinkled throughout the rounds so far. It really seems to depend on whether the guy ahead of you has a great player that they just can't pass up. If they do, they probably don't mind setting you up for someone equally great.

What I'm loving about this format is that people seem to be thinking about this question very differently. I can't know what's going on inside everyone's heads, but just from observation, it seems like some owners are being more careful about this than others, and that creates a very intriguing dynamic.

Also, I have the team queued up to begin Round 8 once Ronthegenius picks.
