Game 109: Terry Crowley hits two doubles and a home run, including a two-run double in the 10th, as the Riders take the opener 8-5. Nate Colbert also homers, driving home three runs. John Strohmayer gets the win, his first of the season, and Ramon Hernandez earns his 31st save.
Game 110: Tony Perez hits two doubles to reach 40 for the season and Balor Moore baffles the Rider hitters as the Stranglers even the series with a 4-2 win.
Game 111: Nate Colbert homers and doubles, and Fred Norman drives in his first run of the year, helping to even his record at 10-10 as the Riders win the series with a 5-1 victory.

Milwaukee now hosts Chicago.
Game 112: As usual, Chicago's Tom Seaver dominates the Riders. He improves to 19-6, beating Milwaukee 7-3. Jon Matlack drops to 10-10. Nate Colbert homers and doubles for Milwaukee.
Game 113: Ron Reed throws eight scoreless innings to outduel Pat Dobson and give the Riders a win over the White Sox, 1-0. Thurman Munson, who has been on something of an RBI binge recently, drives home the game's only run.
Game 114: Milwaukee outhits Chicago 8-5, but White Sox starter Reggie Cleveland doesn't allow a run during his stint, winning his 18th game 4-1.
Milwaukee, still one ahead of Kansas City, heads to Washington.

Game 115: Dick Tidrow shuts out the Riders for seven innings, but Nate Colbert hits a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth and Terry Crowley wins it with a three-run blast in the ninth. It's Crowley's 10th homer, Colbert's 36th.
Game 116: Fred Norman drives in his second run of the season and throws eight good innings as the Riders win 6-2.
Game 117: Bill Robinson hits a solo home run, his sixth, but that's all the Riders manage as tough-luck Jon Matlack falls to 10-11 in a 2-1 decision. At some point this team needs to find a hitter besides Nate Colbert who is capable of driving in a run or two.
The Riders head to Oakland to face the Zoo as divisional play returns.

Game 118: Oakland scores three times in the first inning and the Rider strand a ton of baserunners (Nate Colbert and Ted Ford leave 11 men on base between them) and the Zoo picks up a rare win, 4-3, in the opener. Richie Hebner drives in all three Milwaukee runs.
Game 119: Larry Biittner hits a bases-loaded double in the first, Gene Michael hits his second home run of the season later, and the Riders even the series with a 7-3 win. Skip Lockwood evens his own record at 7-7.
Game 120: Ted Sizemore sparks the offense with three hits and two runs scored; Eddie Leon hits his first home run of the season; and Tommy John strikes out six while walking none as the Riders close out the series with a 5-3 win. John improves to 11-5.
We face Anaheim next.

Game 121: Nate Colbert and Ted Ford hit consecutive home runs in the first inning, and Fred Norman strikes out 11 as he cruises to his 12th win of the season, a 6-1 decision over the visiting Angels.
Game 122: Eddie Leon hits his second home run, a three-run shot that caps an eight-run third inning, and the Riders go on to a 10-2 win. Jon Matlack throws a complete game to even his record at 11-11.
Game 123: Anaheim takes the finale, 8-6, as Mike Torrez throws eight innings of two-hit ball. Milwaukee scores five in the ninth but it's too little, too late.
Big series at Kansas City next.. we are currently three games ahead of them.

Game 124: Kansas City strikes first, roughing up Skip Lockwood in a 9-3 win. Willie Montanez drives home five runs for the Blue Sox, who are now just two games behind us.
Game 125: Ted Sizemore hits a key two-run double, and the Riders even the series with a 5-2 win. Tommy John improves to 12-5 and Nate Colbert hits his 39th home run.
Game 126: Milwaukee has a big third inning, but is shut down the rest of the way. Fred Norman cannot hold the lead and the Blue Sox take the finale 5-4 to move within two games of the division lead.
We host Minnesota (78-48) next.

Game 127: Jon Matlack gets no support again, as the Riders are two-hit by Mickey Lolich and a trio of relievers named "Jim". Minnesota wins, 3-0. Willie Stargell hits his 28th homer for the Mooseheads.
Game 128: Bill Robinson hits a key pinch-hit two-run triple, and Ron Reed scatters nine hits over seven innings as the Riders beat Minnesota 5-2. Ramon Hernandez picks up his 37th save with a scoreless ninth.
Game 129: Skip Lockwood throws 8.1 shutout innings before getting some assistance from Ramon Hernandez as the Riders shut out the Mooseheads 2-0. Eddie Leon has a two-run single to account for the scoring.
The Riders head to Cleveland to face the Flames.

Game 130: Nate Colbert reaches 100 RBI with a 2-4 performance and Tommy John throws eight shutout innings as the Riders open with a 5-0 win.
Game 131: Milwaukee's deeper pitching staff isn't much of an advantage in this one; three fatigued Cleveland relievers keep the Riders off the board and the Flames finally push a run home in the 12th to win it, 3-2. Cleveland's first two runs scored on a Luis Aparicio home run, his third of the season.
Game 132: Jon Matlack hits a two-run double in the fourth and then makes it stand up, allowing only a solo home run to Reggie Jackson in a complete game 3-hitter. Riders win the series with a 2-1 win.
Milwaukee heads to New York next to face the Mammoths. We lead KC by one game in the division.

Game 133: The Riders may need to consider removing Ron Reed from the starting rotation after his poor outing leads to a loss in New York, 8-7. Nate Colbert hits his 40th home run, but the Mammoth's Norm Cash hits his 39th AND 40th home runs to trump him. Kansas City wins for the fifth straight time and is now tied for the division lead.
Game 134: Norm Cash homers again, but that's the only run Skip Lockwood allows. Still, the Riders trail 1-0 after eight. In the ninth, Eddie Leon blasts a grand slam and Milwaukee wins 4-1.
Game 135: Milwaukee has another late-inning explosion, this time a seven-run eighth, as they take the series with a 12-6 win. Nate Colbert hits his 41st home run and Richie Hebner lofts a three-run shot into the bleachers during the decisive eighth. Tommy John improves to 14-5.
We host Detroit (77-58) next.

Game 136: Fred Norman struggles with his control, walking nine batters in his seven innings and putting the Riders in a deep hole. Milwaukee attempts a comeback, scoring five runs in the eighth (four on Nate Colbert's grand slam) but Jack Aker shuts them down in the ninth. Detroit wins 7-5.
Game 137: Milwaukee gets 7.1 shutout innings from the bullpen and finally wins the game in the 14th inning when prospect Justin Krueger hits a pinch hit single to drive home Bill Robinson, who had led off the inning with a double. The final score is 3-2, Riders.
Game 138: Catfish Hunter allows only a home run to Ted Ford, while the Stars score five in the third off Skip Lockwood and beat the Riders 5-2.
Milwaukee travels to Baltimore next, clinging to a one-game lead in the division.

Game 139: Tommy John continues to enjoy strong offensive support, winning his 15th game, 7-5, as the Riders explode for a four-run seventh inning.
Game 140: Nate Colbert has four hits, including two doubles and a home run, to lead Milwaukee to a 5-3 win over Baltimore. Fred Norman wins his 13th game of the season.
Game 141: Jon Matlack comes within one out of a complete game before needing some help from Ramon Hernandez, and the Riders take the finale, 2-1. Matlack matches Norman; both pitchers are now 13-12.
Milwaukee hosts Boston next, PL East leader.

Game 142: Skip Lockwood throws eight shutout innings to even his record at 9-9 as the Riders take the opener, 4-0. Larry Biittner has three hits, including two doubles, and Ted Sizemore has two RBI.
Game 143: Larry Biittner has another three-hit game, and Tommy John throws seven strong innings to improve his record to 16-5 as the Riders defeat Boston 4-1.
Game 144: Ramon Hernandez suffers a rare meltdown; entering the ninth with a 3-1 lead, two on base and none out, he allows both runners to score and two others; Boston scores four in the inning and steals a 5-3 win in the finale.
Luckily, Kansas City has lost two straight, so the division lead is up to three games. However, Milwaukee faces yet another division leader next as they visit the White Sox, who need two wins for a 100-win season.

Game 145: Chicago gets its 99th win, scoring a run in the bottom of the 10th on Cesar Tovar's bases-loaded single to make the final 4-3. Gene Michael has four hits for Milwaukee. Kansas City also loses; the division lead remains three games.
Game 146: It should come as no surprise that Tom Seaver shuts out the Riders, 2-0, striking out 13 and walking none. Skip Lockwood is the tough-luck loser.
Game 147: Milwaukee finds their bats and deals 23-game winner Reggie Cleveland a loss; Tommy John is the beneficiary, winning his 17th game, 9-4. Richie Hebner and Nate Colbert hit home runs for the Riders.
Milwaukee returns home to fact Washington, now with a four-game lead.

Game 148: Washington hits three home runs off Fred Norman in the second inning, scoring five times on the way to a 9-7 win. Nate Colbert hits his 45th home run for Milwaukee, and Larry Biittner his second, but the comeback falls short.
Game 149: Jon Matlack throws a complete-game four-hit shutout and four Riders have at least two RBI as Milwaukee evens the series with a 12-0 blowout.
Game 150: Skip Lockwood evens his record at 10-10 with some help from Ted Ford (four RBI) and Ted Sizemore (third home run of the season, three RBI) in an 11-1 win.
The final round of divisional play will close the season; Milwaukee hosts Oakland to start things off and will then travel to Anaheim before finishing the season with a visit from the second place Kansas City Blue Sox, currently four games behind.

Game 151: Richie Hebner has four hits and five RBI as Tommy John wins his 18th game, 7-0 over the Zoo.
Game 152: Three fatigued Oakland relievers shut out the Riders for six innings and the Zoo wins easily, 6-1, despite another three-hit day for Larry Biittner, who raises his average to .275.
Game 153: Jon Matlack allows only two unearned runs in another complete game victory, raising his record to 15-12, as the Riders take an 8-2 decision. Nate Colbert hits his 46th home run and drives home three; Larry Biittner has two more hits and three RBI himself.
Game 154: Skip Lockwood strikes out 11 and walks none in eight innings, and the red-hot Larry Biittner has four more hits, as the Riders beat Oakland 9-1.
The Riders head to Anaheim with a magic number of four.
