What is the proper role of government in the US? Topic

Let's put it another way.

Business:  Make money.
Government:  Make constituents more comfortable.
People:  Protest business and government when they're affecting you negatively.

Government can protect you from poor business practices(like creating a monopoly and charging you obscene prices or killing you with asbestos).   You can refuse to do business with corporations if you don't like their business practices and change your elected officials if they're not keeping business in line.   But a business is created to make money.  They have NO obligation to you.  They need you but, if you let them negatively affect you and you still line their pockets, it's on you.

But, what if big business knowingly hurts people in the pursuit of greater profits?  Should that be allowed?

That's where the government, who should be protecting you, and your own personal responsibility comes in.

IOW, if you're hoping General Electric says "I hope this doesn't hurt greeny", you better get a Snickers because it's gonna be awhile.  But keep in mind that Snickers isn't saying that either.   Both are thinking "How can we make a profit off of greeny?"   As well they should.

Problem is governments all over the world including the big ones like the States and China are bought and paid for by big business.  Its clear as crystal that big business has the government in their back pockets.  So who is it thats supposed to protect us?  And yes you can say elect somebody different.  But the reality is that all the major parties are controlled by big business.  Anybody that doesnt think so needs to stop watching Faux news only...

And btw I am fine with big business having profit as their main objective.  But I dont think it should come at the expense of everybody else.  There needs to be more accountability.

Perhaps big business and government are in bed together.  So who do you think should protect you?  Who are you counting on doing it if business controls the government?

Perhaps.   But I'm curious what he thinks is going to happen.

1. Business is driven by profit not the well-being of individuals.
2. Government has been bought by business.

So what does he want?  For someone to say "That's just wrong.  Business will not be driven by profit and government will not be bought by business!!"?   That is not happening.    So what is his solution?

People need to be nicer?   We don't live in Shangri-La.   In fact, it's a fictional place.
