From the rules:

Subsequent Drafts will be done during the season off-the-clock. First year WIS players will make up the pool. Draft order will be decided by random draw the first year, then a weighted draw based on previous season finish for subsequent years.

My question:

At what point in the first season will we be drafting 1978 rookies?
Since it will be off-the-clock we will start shortly after the season starts. I want to be done with the draft or very close to it by the time we reach the end of the regular season.

If that is too soon, for whatever reason, I'm open to opinions and why?

Also against random. I vote for standings at game 120.

And I don’t mind random at all in this kind of league.

According to the rules we signed up for: "Subsequent Drafts will be done during the season off-the-clock. First year WIS players will make up the pool. Draft order will be decided by random draw the first year, then a weighted draw based on previous season finish for subsequent years."

So Where are these Rules? If that's what the Rules say. Then I guess that's How we will do it...

Rules laid out in Progressive Classified forum. That is where I cut and pasted from

(FSP) Franchise Soup Progressive

We are in need of 1 more owner to start this unique new Progressive League. So yes, the other 15 spots for this league have already been filled. Take a look and send me a SiteMail if you are interested.

There are a few Team Icon Progressives currently running that seem to be reasonably popular. This Progressive idea came from them, however instead of building your team starting with your single Franchise what if you were required to have each player from a different Franchise?
This League you will be required to maintain a Franchise Soup at all times. This will create a completely different and unique challenge to building and maintaining your roster every season.

We'll start with the 1977 season when MLB went to 26 Teams and we will all roster 26 players with 1 being placed in AAA, and each player must come from a different Franchise.

16 Teams, 4/4 format with interleague play. We may expand in the future depending on league stability.

Drafts:
The Initial Draft will be 26 rounds. A Random draw will determine draft order for round 1 and then it will be serpentine going forward. You can draft any player at anytime but you can only draft 1 player from each Franchise.
Subsequent Drafts will be done during the season off-the-clock. First year WIS players will make up the pool. Draft order will be decided by random draw the first year, then a weighted draw based on previous season finish for subsequent years. Which version you use of a Player that played for more than 1 Franchise in a season is your choice.

Cuts/Keepers:
Will not be made until after the draft. Once you know who you got in the draft you'll have to Cut players that are from the same Franchise.
Example: You draft Ozzie Smith as a rookie for the 1978 season. He started his career with the Padres so he now takes up the Padres spot on your roster. Maybe your previous player from the Padres on your 1977 roster was George Hendrick. You must Cut Hendrick at the end of the season to open the spot for Ozzie. 4 years later Ozzie goes to the Cardinals. At that time you must decide which Cardinals player you will Cut, Ozzie or whoever your other Cardinals player was.

Free Agents:
All players that get Cut at the end of the season will go into a separate pool and we'll have a short draft using these players and any other players that were Cut from previous seasons. The first 2 or 3 seasons we will also include the players that were not chosen in the Initial draft. The Free Agent draft will have a completely random order. New players dropped to make room for the drafted Free Agents will be removed from the league and will be available the following season to draft again as Free Agents.

AAA:
There will be 6/2 spots in AAA. One will be used for your 26th player. The rest will be fictitious and won't be allowed to play. When we reach the 1993 and 1998 seasons and MLB expanded to 28 and 30 Teams we will draft one player each from those new Franchises also and the extra players will go to AAA.

IR/DL:
Players without a WIS season will be placed in IR. You will need to draft a player from their Franchise to fill their vacant spot on your roster. When the IR player returns one of the 2 players will need to be Cut if they are both still from the same Franchise. If there isn't a player from the Franchise you need in the draft pool then you'll get a 200-300K scrub player to fill that spot.

Trades:
You can only trade same Franchise players for each other during the season. (Must maintain your Soup at all times).
Keep in mind, the draft takes place during the season so you will know which same Franchise players you will have to drop before the next season. This could open up a multitude of trade possibilities during the off-season. If you are weak at one Franchise and someone else has to drop a good player from that same Franchise trading for that player could be a good option for both Teams.
Draft Picks can be traded up to 2 years ahead.

Stadiums:
Are not exclusive but only those in play from 1977 to present day are allowed. You can change your stadium anytime.

Yes to DH, both Leagues.

Was going to post the rules again when we get our own private forum.
The biggest factor in this league will be the drafts since you can only have 1 player from each Franchise. That is why I want to do it off-the-clock. Then as you draft new players you'll know which Franchise/s you'll have more than 1 player from, which means a roster move will be required either by releasing or trading players before the next season starts.
