Can anyone explain stadium effects to me?

If a stadium is a +4 HR , then everyone will hit more homers, but do the extra home runs come from a guy's doubles become homers? or do flyouts become homers?

Is this explained anywhere?

Park effects are an extremely poorly understood part of the game, but I'll give it my best shot:

A plus rating for 1B means that some outs will become hits
Plus ratings for 2B, 3B, and HR mean that it's more likely that HITS will become home runs, triples, or doubles. I believe it works in that order...first determine if an at bat produces a hit or an out...if a hit, is it a HR?...if not a HR, is it a 3B?...if not a 3B, is it a 2B?...otherwise it's a single.

Outs do not become home runs. Hits become more likely to be home runs.

Okay - I made my decision.

Going into the last round, spid had too many holes in his lineup to fill and I was looking forward to the dagger pick.

Then in the fourth round, he picked the 72 Braves and they filled every single need he had (almost anyway). You all should be jealous. The Braves gave him under $ 1 million players at 1B, 2B, and shortstop and good starters at catcher, 1B, and outfield.

So who to dagger?

I don't see major cash problems and I think he can get six in from each team so it just comes down to how can I hurt his team without giving him the cash to help it somewhere else. The guy I want to dagger is Enos Slaughter who is by far the best hitter on the team. But that would free up over $ 3 million which would go into his pitching.

In the end I looked at his # 3 and # 4 hitters and decided no team should have to face Stan Musial and Hank Aaron back to back. Out of the two I choose to dagger Hank Aaron because his backup, George Scott is not as good and actually costs a bit more.

The stadium to be eliminated is Milwaukee County Stadium.

My guess is that spid will not be too disappointed seeing this dagger.

CRTYonker gets a dagger to Claude Passeau and Yankee Stadium

The list of dagger picks is being kept on page one of this thread.

Peekay chose the '62 Yankees and then was gifted the '22 A's and '62 Red Sox. He's loaded with hitters and has good options for inexpensive backups. His choice of the '72 Yankees was a good one as it gives him two choices for his second 3B. He's pretty much dagger proof everywhere. I did notice that he has some tough decisions to make with starting pitching. I'm going to dagger SP Steve Kline and maybe force him to use those '62 Yankees pitchers (like Terry and Ford and Stafford) and fewer of those '62 Yankee bats. I also will dagger Yankee Stadium (I).

Alright, redcped, you have the 42 Dodgers; 72 Rangers (odd team out); 42 Reds; & 42 Browns.

I looked at a few too many options to dagger a player. I originally thought about getting rid of Dick Billings: your best catcher and about the only real hitter on the Rangers but Billings is not really all that great with limited defense and you would still be able to find some backup Rangers for the bench.

You managed to find a number of cheap backups. Great job. One place where you are a bit limited; however, is SS. If Damon Phillips is removed, the next cheapest SS for a backup would be Toby Harrah at a cost of almost $2M over Phillips. That appears to be the best way to hurt you so say "Goodbye" to Damon Phillips (SS).

As for stadiums, you have a couple of pitcher parks in Arlington and Crosley and a couple of hitter parks in Ebbets and Sportsman's Park. Your team is fairly balanced but I'll dagger the park of your first choice: Ebbets Field.
Well played. Burned by my own dagger strategy, in fact.

I was quite concerned about backups at 1B and 3B and rejected a lot of my final team options because of the bench ... and somehow I failed to notice this vulnerability once I found the Browns suitable elsewhere.

I've been assigned kentol for the daggering.

It's a real strong pitching staff. As I was rostering this, I had no trouble finding space for as many quality innings as I felt necessary. So many innings! So many really good innings! So, there's not much I can do there. Have your Palmer, Ryan, Dobson, whoever. Don't seem like I can do much about that right now.

Offense? Hoo boy, there's some gaps here. The cheapest SS is $1.2m, but there were a couple of them. Grich is the only really "good" SS, but it's not really a full season, and the next best guy wasn't enough worse to make it worth it. 2B is really not much better, with the cheapest at $1.8m, and $3.2 as the next cheapest. But I didn't have any cash issues getting a roster made, so it didn't seem to be as potent as I'd like. First base, third base, more of the same. Not much to be had for anything that would actually, you know, hurt. But then there's catcher. Short one guy, you're having to cobble together a bunch of less-than-half seasons, when you only get 2 spots for it. There might be somebody with secondary positions in there, but I'm not gonna look for that, and that's gonna force the hand in other ways that are, at the very least, awkward. So I will do away with what must have been one of the major reasons for taking the '62 Phils - Clay Dalrymple

Stadium-wise...They're all pitching-heavy, so I'll dump the most unbalanced of them - Memorial Stadium (Baltimore '62)

OK Brygold you have way too much pitching but honestly there is nothing one dagger can do to mess with that. So i will at least dagger Braves Field to not give you any more help.

So my first obvios thought was to dagger Pops since he is your only source of power. Instead ill throw it towards Rabbit Maranville SS which now give you a total of 4 to choose from...who are they you might ask? well i see many more household names such as Hod Ford, Chuck Ward, Jackie Hernandez and the great Gene Alley! Your team will still crush with all that damn pitching.

Great League idea Beer!
