BeAllEndall can take from the 1954 NY Giants

jpeterso has offered up his '74 Red Sox for his 2nd dagger. His starting pitching rotation is definitely going to miss Luis Tiant. I used to love his quirky, twisty delivery (and that "stair step" thing he'd do as he came to the set position). His '74 season is a good one -and it's one less quality starting pitcher I'll have to face in my division.

Emocito - please throw your dagger at the 1944 NY Giants

I have the honor of stabbing whalers10. He has the 64 Orioles, 74 Cubs, 44 White Sox, and 34 Giants. The Orioles are pretty well stacked on offense and pitching. I would definitely consider Bunker, Roberts, McNally, and Pappas as starters. They all have low salaries and can perform at the $80M cap. They also have Miller, Haddix, Hall, and a cheap Bertania. Offensively, Robinson at 3B if you spend the coin, Powell and Bowens as cheap OF options, and 2 defensive stalwarts in 2B Adair and SS Aparicio. Bunker would be a good option but he can be easily replaced.

I really wanted the 34 Giants in R4 and they almost made it to me. Would have made losing Koufax easier, or I would have kept him. But, besides Hubbell, the rest of their options were, well, meh, but Fitzsimmons and Schumacher are usable at this cap. Offensively they have a $7M Terry at 1B, a cheap Jo-jo Moore in the OF along with a couple of platoonish OF’s in O’Doul and Weintraub, and a very good value SS with Travis Jackson. Hughie Critz is also available as a good defensive 2B at $4M.

The Cubs offer Zamora as the only viable pitching option. Offensively they don’t have much but what they do have is cheap. Williams and Thornton can provide the 1B platoon at a combined $5M, Rosello is a sub-$500K option at 2B with plenty of PA’s. Cardenal can play LF and lead-off for under $4M, Kessinger plays average D at SS for $3.6M, and many other low cost filler players. And then there is Madlock at 3B, another good value. An extra million could throw a monkey wrench…

The White Sox, well, they really do suck. Pitching is Maltzberger and Lee. Offensively they have Tucker and Moses in the OF, maybe Carnett, too. Cass Michaels is a nice $200K SS. The next cheapest is Bal Bob Johnson…hmmm

I think I’ve narrowed it down to 3, Hubbell, Madlock, or Michaels. Michaels forces a bad Baltimore player to be used when it is mostly unnecessary, and he still costs you $1M. Madlock would most likely be replaced by Hodgin and cost an additional $1M as well. Hubbell would be a CY contender in this league. Although he falls in at over $10M, his 332 Ip/162 are worth every penny. Great value here. The problem is, there is enough pitching available that would also free up money for an MVP caliber offensive player. Like Bill Terry or Mel Ott.

I just cannot, in good conscience, allow Hubbell to be in our division after Koufax was put out on the curb like yesterdays garbage. Carl Hubbell can join him and is no longer an option for your pitching staff.

Lastly, you will not get any help from Baltimore. They don’t take Kindly to those New York and Chicago types. You know, being criminals and all. Memorial Stadium is also banned.

fatguyrd has graciously allowed me to dagger (2nd dagger) a 1944 Blue Jay (Phillies) player.
The guy I feel will create the biggest salary cap problem is SS Granny Hamner.
He now must use a $1.6 mil backup SS.

Eman, Johnny Antonelli is still upset over being cut out from his share of the 1948 World Series gate receipts and has opted to leave the Giants indefinitely to persue a career in tire sales. Johnny Antonelli is no longer available to your team.

According to the chart on Page 1, it's whalers who does your 2nd dagger.

Whalers - please throw your dagger at the 1944 NY Giants
And this should be ermocito doing the 2nd dagger on jonstephen25.

Now I'm wondering if any others are wrong, too.

Landry doesn’t have much SS depth, so I’ll dagger Harvey Kuenn, double-killing him as a SS (on the 54 Tigers) and as a much less useful OF (on the 64 Giants).

I’ll dagger Fenway since all of Landry’s HR hitters are right-handed.

Kentol I am taking Fred Vaughn (2B) with my dagger of the 44 Senators. He’s your only backup 2B, so you’ll have to roster multiple starters at 2B. You can play Myatt at SS or OF, but he’s pretty bad at both. Stennett is a competent OF, but he’s a dynamite 2B, so some of his $6M salary will go to waste if you have to play him elsewhere.

good luck!

Everyone except 3dayrotation has their first dagger thrown at least.

Please don't post your final rosters yet.

Once I get my second dagger I'll post my roster as a sample of how to do it for me to check accuracy easiest.

This whole 2nd dagger thing has me confused. I couldn't find anything about it in the rules. Only a dagger of 1 team and 1 stadium.

ooooohdoggie

Please dagger someone from my 1934 Browns.

If you can't find anyone worth daggering, blame redcped. He gave me that trash.

OF - SAM WEST

Centerfielder Sam West was a 4 time all-star including the inaugural 1933 game at Comiskey Park, part of Chicago's World Fair, without plans to make it an annual event.West spent most of his career with the Washington Senators, with 5 years in the middle of his career with the St.Louis Browns. The season after he was traded to the Browns, Washington went to the World Series. Now he misses Beernoser's Bad Neighbor League.
