Neighbor League #7 Draft Topic

Kentol - Looking over your teams starting with the 67 Cards they have a very nice staff with Carlton, Hughes, Gibson, etc. and some decent relief options. The 47 Cubs pitching staff is a train wreck but offer a few potentials at 1B and OF. The 37 Dodgers really don't offer much pitching support either and their hitting is suspect but a couple of useable folks in lower salaries. Your last pick the 57 Cards offer Stan the Man if you want a star, some good OF options and some low salary folks for making it under the cap. The staff offers some good value as well and a nice pick late in the draft of this team.

The stadiums Sportsman big 2B park virtually neutral aside from +1 RF. Ebbets little more Power friendly with +1 in RF and LF, The 67 Cards are in Busch Stadium and get a pitcher friendly park with a -2 to RF and RF. Then there is gold ol' hitter friendly Wrigley!.

Going to put my dagger in Busch to challenge the staff a little more and to further challenge the staff take out an affordable effective Bob Gibson.

BeAllEndAll - For my final dagger, take your best shot at the juggernaut 1977 Toronto Blue Jays.

Roster checks out, commish. You just don't see anyone named Zeke, Blix, Dutch, or Rip anymore.

Nice pull to roster Emil Verban, who was Duane Kuiper before there was Duane Kuiper. Both second basemen finished their careers with exactly one homer, though Kuip had even more ABs than Emil.

You missed a good food option with Sugar Cane left on the scrap heap, but Terry Cornutt makes up for it!

I had Sugar Cane until the VERY VERY end, but ended up with enough money to swap for Johnny Rigney's additional innings. I couldn't find a better upgrade given the price jumps and 6 player rule.

Beernoser has too many solid permutations at each of his positions for me to back him into a corner. I could get cute and dagger backup SS Jimmy Cooney, which would take him away from two squads, but he still has Chick Galloway. I could take away Hack Wilson, Chicago's best hitter, but that leaves an excellent Riggs Stephenson in the OF.

So the only thing left to do is try to further thin out his pitching staff. He's going to need to draft either Root, Blake, or Carlson to fill out his rotation, because Grove, Quinn, and Ulrich only get you to 700 innings.

Root is interesting because he has the best OAV and the most innings, but he's also the most expensive. And a guy who throws 328 IPs can crowd out other pitchers, especially if you're stuck between a three man rotation and a four man.

Blake is nice because he has the best HR/9 and the right number of innings to complete Beernoser's rotation. But he also has the worst WHIP of the group, and I just don't see many guys with 1.40+ being successful, even in the Neighbor league.

So that leaves Carlson. He's got the best WHIP, the most affordable price tag, and an innings count that fills out a 4-man rotation without stealing innings from any of your stronger starters. The best fit for this team, methinks.

So 1927 Hal Carlson is officially daggered.

EDIT: Looks like I overlooked Guy Bush as an option. Oh well. Let it stand with Carlson.

Had 3 players available at 9 mill+, but in the end I didn't draft any of them. Had a version of the team that had both Killebrew and Greenberg, but too much compromise was needed at other positions to make it work. Pitching and long ball will be our strengths.

On page 1, there is a section near the bottom for when a roster has been approved. Currently me and jpeterso, but I plan to update there not with new messages. .

You picked the right guy. Carlson was the guy I thought would give me the most trouble.

ermocito's roster is good.

Ermocito-

there are always 1/4 to a 1/3 of rosters who have problems.

The two most common problems are

1. using the wrong partial season for a player

2. using a player that shows up if you search for a utility player under that team and season but doesn't show up if you load the whole team making him ineligible.

Checking rosters is time consuming but you should be seeing errors in at least 1/4 of the rosters. At leasty that's how it's always been in the past.

This matches my understanding - I am hoping the roster list I posted in a Google Sheets might mitigate errors. Even if not, it makes it much faster for me to check the roster.

calhoop- You may select from the 1937 Boston Bees for my final dagger
Hello seay00

I tried to figure out a more creative target for this second dagger but in the final analysis, we are just going with the obvious choice.

Looking at all four teams, your starting pitching options are pretty mediocre at best. You have a couple of good high-inning 1927 Yankees, maybe 3 mediocre-at-best 1937 Reds and really nothing from the 1977 Red Sox besides gopher baller Fergie Jenkins. Pitching is the strong point of your 1937 Bees and one starter stands out. So I will be eliminating 1937 Jim Turner from your potential staff.
