My closer in Belle is like Trevor Hoffman, I keep him around for sentimental reasons and he has performed reasonably until this season where he is 14 for 21 in save opportunities.  We are approaching the all-star break and I am considering releasing him after a long and glorious career - 522 ML saves & three time FOY.  My team is not completely out of the race but hasn't played well all season.

Should I let the guy play out his contract and let him retire after the season or is it time to cut bait?

Why do I find myself having an emotional attachment to my HBD players, especially the ones that have been with my organization since Day 1?

If you have a better option and think you can make a run at the playoffs, I'd pass him thru waivers, demote him and let him be a call-up as a SuB down the stretch.

I brought a player back just so he could get 400 homers.  http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=563235   I also have tough time cutting players loose who've been with me for 10 seasons or so.  While they are little fake players, we have looked at their stats on a daily basis for 2-4 real years.  Sadly, I think they become more than little fake guys to owners who stay in one world.   That really is pathetic if you think about it.

Naturally, I started Romo last night over Eli, and my team lost. It also lost its quarterback, and Eli has a bye next week. Available QBs on the waiver wire are:

D McNabb (at DET)
V Young (at SD)
M Cassell (BUF)
R Fizpatrick (at KC)
M Sanchez (GB)
M Hasselbeck (at OAK)
J Campbell (SEA)


Who would you suggest?

McNabb.   In my mind, Sanchez is the only other viable option.   I'm not sure the others are legit NFL QB at this point.

For the same reason David Carr was a bench warmer until forced into duty.

The Asians.  The Europeans want to drink Wodka all the time and then they get unruly.

Extra AB/IP.   I think each appearance gets a player closer to being BL ready.  If I can squeeze out another 80 AB in each of a player's first three seasons, I think that's 3 1/2 seasons of minor league work as opposed to 3 seasons.
