Game 25: Cal Eldred starts for the B-Collars, and it is evident early on that he doesn't have his best stuff. The first batter he faces, Brady Anderson, hits a home run. The third batter he faces, Ken Griffey Jr., hits a home run. Tony Phillips adds another home run in the third, and Brady Anderson adds a two-run single in the fourth. Ron Karkovice homers in the sixth, and Ken Griffey Jr. hits his second home run of the day to lead off the seventh, ending Eldred's day. Montreal starter Joe Hesketh lasts through five, Bob Wickman tosses three scoreless innings, and the Spectres win 8-4.
Game 26: Ron Karkovice doubles and homers in the first four innings, helping Montreal to a 4-0 lead, but the B-Collars erase that margin with a four-run fifth that includes homers from Carlos Baerga and Kenny Lofton. With one out in the bottom half of that frame, Ken Griffey Jr. homers, his 10th of the season. The next five batters reach base also, three by walk, and the Spectres score five times in the inning on the way to a 15-7 win. Rick Aguilera has a rough outing in relief, allowing three runs and watching his ERA skyrocket to 8.68 on the season.
Game 27: Pittsburgh takes an early 3-0 lead off Alex Fernandez, but the Spectres even things up when Randy Velarde takes Sid Fernandez deep for a three-run home in the fourth. In the fifth, Sid loses all control, walking three batters, including one with the bases loaded, to give Montreal the lead. Alex is lights out through the eighth and Robb Nen pitches a scoreless ninth to save a 4-3 win. Sid gives up only two hits, but walks eight, in his five innings. It's the first time in recent memory that the Spectres have beat him.
Game 28: Scott Sanders pitches effectively into the seventh inning and even drives in a run as the Spectres sweep Pittsburgh with a 6-2 win. Eddie Murray drives home two runs, giving him 19 for the season.
Interleague sets with Minnesota (12-16) and Boston (19-9) are up next.
