Not the most reliable source, but Larry Brooks of the NYPost claims that Boston is thinking of offering Hossa a 12yr/120M contract. I find this extremely hard to believe. Any truth Boston faithful?

i wouldn't be surprised. they have a massive hard on for hossa. and the only way to get someone good to sign with the bruins is to pay a ton. everybody knows they're not cup contenders.

Jeremy Jacobs would never allow that much money to be spent.

They signed Michael Ryder. Ryder's contract, plus what Wideman will get in arbitration will put them just over the cap, so they'll already need to cut someone (why did they NOT buy out Glenn Murray?).

Unfortunately, it looks like their summer shopping is done already.

Pretty much the same team as last year. Replace Metropolit with Ryder, add a healthy Patrice Bergerion back in, and Alex Auld gets replaced with Tuukka Rask.

Right now, they'll be better than last year, just by virtue of having Bergeron back, but still not serious contenders.

Ryder, 28, scored 14 goals and 31 points in 70 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season.

wow. i smell stanley cup parade thru the streets of beantown next season!

*sigh*

It's called Bruins.

They need to trade Wideman. I'm sure Toronto would love to have a defenseman who can't play defense on their team.

I'll be honest....I was very pessimistic last year (and it showed on here...often). While I still don't expect a lot, I am more optimistic now than I was last year. Obviously, I will reserve final judgement until training camp, but I do like the fact they they are leaning toward more youth. Yes, it may hurt for a couple of seasons, but in the end, the results should start to show up.

Think of what a line of Wheeler-Bergeron-Lucic will be like in a couple of years with Mark Stuart and Matt Lashoff on Defense and Tuukka rask in net (before their contract demands get to be too much and they are traded)

I think it's really hard to access the Bruins' activity just because their build so differently than most other teams (big defensive core). Their great strength from last year was their overall organization's ability to dig deep and fill the (many) holes that injuries dealt them last year with good youngersters who were supported by veterns who rose to the occassion (Chara, Savard & Thomas, in particular, had record seasons & Sturm proved again to be a great asset).

I've been really pleased with the Bruins so far this off season. For once, they drafted what they needed (offence, offence & more offence...I think the goalie was just for variety). While they have not been big movers & shakers in the trade & acquisition dept, again, they got what they needed in Ryder & Wheeler. Lastly, they've done a good job sheding Auld and retaining their key people

If they keep last year sense of "team" and do better on the injury front (I think they could only improve on last year) I think they stand a good chance to go further in 2008-9.

Two more things:

-I'm soooo glad that the Bruins let Hossa go by to Detroit (another ***** for the collection they have going). He never would have fit into their gritty style of play where you are expected to mix it up physically.

-Even though I was disappointed when they last to the Habs in game 7 (not shocked...just disappointed), I think they really did get the Canadien "monkey" off their back by snapping their lossing streak and notching three wins against the Habs (including a wild one in game 6 that would have made Orr proud). I hope they carry this with them into the next season and continue to stick it to 'em!
