"The rest" should take steps to make themselves more marketable. The days of n00b-raping, "do what you want with your team" and destroying other teams to build your "dynasty" seems to have come to an end.

This is the key point.

WiS screwed up by allowing too many worlds to be created (I thought limiting world creation to owners with some kind of track record would have been prudent), and they seem to have reached a plateau for new customers. That's a problem they need to/probably will address, and that's largely out of our hands.

We can, however, influence the quality of the worlds we play in. Use vetoes to block lopsided trades and don’t offer or accept lopsided trades. Don't tank. Don’t get drunk and act like a jackass in the league chat. Encourage lazy owners to take care of the minors if you notice problems. Quickly replace abandoned teams. Offer assistance to n00bs. Update your blog. Aggressively recruit new owners during the offseason.

Not every world can be elite, but none of them has to suck.

Those worlds would have a chance...they would get 30 days. If a world has 16 openings for 30 days, it's not borderline...it's on life-support. Let the failing worlds fail.

What would you expect to accomplish by destroying a world after 30 days? Do you believe those 10 or so owners will then join your world? A certain % will join another world. Do you think if a world folds that owners will become more picky about the worlds they choose? Absolutely. If so would it be good for the game if the only worlds that survive are elite type worlds? Elite is a relative term that compares it to other existing worlds. Right now, worlds could be categorized into Elite, Above Average, Average, Below Average, Poor, and Non-functional. All I'm advocating is to get rid of the non-functional worlds.

My proposal of 16 teams/30 days isn't a death knell to a world with 16 openings. You just have 30 days to get it under 15 and keep it there. That's a friggin' month to add a couple of owners. If you've gone a month and cannot get your world half full, you aren't filling unless WifS gives away another 100 teams. And that just doesn't work as we're finding out.

Whoa let's not go overboard here.

What can you do? Send sitemails that owners generally disregard? Make posts in other leagues? Post on the forums? There is no sure-fire way to recruit new owners, especially when you have to pay 25 bucks to play. There are going to be 100s of openings in about a week and a lot of owners already play in multiple leagues. WiS needs to find "new" owners. If not, leagues will continue to struggle to fill during rollover.
Would you agree that at least attempting to do something is better than sitting back and doing nothing?

I'm just trying to understand what the holdouts are expecting to magically happen to fill their world? I guess they're just looking for another free team giveway or promo code. But that's just a short term fix. If their world fills because of another giveaway, they'll just run into the same problems again three months later.

Some people (ok, at least someONE) attempted to do something. I was told by WIS that they had a solution in the works. Your suggesting that I should try to talk people into putting $25 into a dysfunctional league that I don't even believe in right now? I can't do it. I'd never make a good salesman because I can't sell something I don't believe in. I'm waiting for their solution (not because I think they owe us one, but because they offered one) and I will make a decision on how I will choose to proceed once that solution is presented. Until then, there really isn't anything to do but wait.

Why are some people willing to sit around and wait weeks for their league to fill?

Answer: They built up a powerhouse by taking advantage of the n00bs and absentee owners, and they don't want to give up the chance to win a WS (no matter how tainted).

That's why Admin shouldn't reward them with extra credits. Let them sit there with their team of superstars... and rot.

Admin needs to set a deadline for the deal in MLHB. Right now, there are 10 owners that won't leave because of the incentive to close up shop.

Are you suggesting that if WIS sets a deadline and it passes the ten owners will then leave

No, but the 10 people who are in it are probably still in it because they may get a credit. It leaves their teams in limbo. Admin needs to close the deal so the owners can move on if they want to.

It's hard to find fault with waiting in MLHB. WifS offered them a buyout if all owners agreed. They didn't. WifS has told them a solution(or at least an attempt) is on the way. What would be the purpose in abandoning the league now?

I thought it had to be unanimous.

It does.

It does have to be unanimous and owners can leave now if they wish to move on. No one is forcing them to stay in the league.
12/1/2008 1:07 PM
They're staying because they might get something from WifS.
12/1/2008 1:08 PM
Exactly. So Admin should give them a deadline on the offer so the league can fold.
