WARNING! This post is just me blabbing on and on about nothing.
I should be doing some stuff around the house so I thought I'd get some thoughts out here about GH and hockey dynasty games in general. I know that whoever the programmer is, he rarely shows up so any improvements I talk about are just whistling in the wind.
WIS people that have voiced an opinion on what a hockey dynasty game should be seem very certain about what they want. They probably do know what they want but I had no idea what I would want until I tried it. I like the league structure they have for the public game. You start at the bottom and if you win, you move up, lose and you stay or move down. Eventually you find your level. I believe they have a pyramid type structure, if not, they should so that you have the best 20 owners in the top league with new blood moving up to challenge each season.
I like their salary cap. Many of you disagree. I think it probably works to maintain a balance.
I don't know what their database looks like, but with disk being relatively cheap, I would go ahead and keep all of the stats. You can keep them in tables that are out of the way so that you aren't having to wait for long running queries every time someone wants to see their roster.
I haven't looked at it for awhile now but their play by play has some unrealistic shifts. Having your checking lines go after their scoring lines does not seem to work (yes, I was the home team when I tried it).
I believe that when they give the player a hometown, height, weight, etc. They are trying to make the player just a little more than just a set of numbers in your mind. I didn't think that I would ever say this, but having the same picture over and over for each player bugs me. The paper dolls thing is not something that I ever though would be a good idea but it helps keep the players separated in my mind.
Anyway, why did you read all of this? I warned you not to.
