Can we ask Biden if he thinks women should be able to get abortions in the last week of pregnancy?
Prove he ever said anything close to this swamp and I will vote the GOP ticket in every election from now until the end of time!
When running for Senate, Obama was asked directly if he supported late term/partial birth abortions. His response was that he was "pro-choice".
Both parties are more extreme than the citizenry at large re this issue. The citizenry at large wants the ability to choose in the 1st trimester, heavy restrictions thereafter (rape/incest/health of mother), with no late term/partial birth abortions. This is in line with my thought process, although I would tend to favor the only abortions allowed after the first trimester would be in cases of health of the mother. In cases of rape/incest, you make your decision in the 1st trimester, or you're out of luck. And don't even bring the "what if she doesn't know she's pregnant" argument, because that argument is a ******* joke.
PS: I am sick and tired of hearing about "accidental pregnancies". The only "accidental pregnancy" is when NO birth control is used. If you have sex without using protection, any resulting pregnancy is not accidental.
Guess what? I am in total agreement with you as far as abortion is concerned. That may shock you but the room in the middle is a lot more crowded then most of us are willing to admit.
It does not shock me. I would bet 75%-80% of the people in this country are right there. I think it is ridiculous to say no abortion ever. I think it is ridiculous to say you can not have an abortion if you are a victim or rape or incest. I think the arguments for abortion in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters are likewise ridiculous. And most importantly, I think it is barbaric to allow late term/partial birth abortions. The one and only issue that I do not even want to discuss is the health of the mother issue when dealing with a pregnancy in the 2nd/3rd trimesters. I don't even want to think about having to make such a decision.
As a legal matter, I believe the decision in Roe v. Wade is a joke. I further think that the opinion is the reason this is still a major issue. All that happens if that case is overturned is that each individual state decides the issue. If that were to happen, I would estimate 2/3 to 3/4 of the states would keep it legal in some form. As to the states that made it completely illegal, organizations such as NOW and Planned Parenthood in those states would shift their focus to transporting women in those states who want one, out of state to get one.
Simply, it is the extremes of both parties that give each party a bad name. The "no abortion ever" crowd in the Repub party is not as big as the media and the Dems would have you believe. Further, the militant abortionists are a small minority in the Dem party as well.
