Poor people are poor for a number of reasons:
- Poor choices (this includes poor effort)
- Poor genetics (dealt a bad hand from the beginning)
- Poor luck (**** happens)
Most of the situations will fall under these three headers. HARD WORK and perseverance can overcome #1 and #3.
I don't necessarily think that hard work can overcome any of those.
Some people make mistakes. If you come from a middle class or better family, have savings, a good job, etc., you can usually overcome a mistake. But if you're already poor and you get a DUI or flunk out of community college or whatever, you're pretty much ******.
Hard work isn't magic. Some of the hardest working people I've ever met were also the poorest. Something my dad taught me growing up - life isn't fair. You don't always get what you deserve or deserve what you get.
Of all the people in the US, the poor have the least amount of power to change their individual situation or the system that delivers their daily buttfucking.
