Bad Neighbor League Draft Thread Topic

Hi all - I am in another draft going on now with calhoop. and he is snowed in the mountains with no power, internet etc. His cell phone is dead but he is using his car to charge it up enough to get text messages out. He just told me the power is still out but crews are on the scene so he's hopeful it's fixed soon.

He asked me to let you know what was going on.

Appreciate it. Glad he's okay.

My advice is to move to Texas. No state income tax and 70 degrees in February.

Did he happen to mention what team he wants?

:)

As far as the last few picks. I don't think it matters much. You can make your pick or hold off until calhoop is back as a courtesy. With only two more picks to make and 20-30 teams still left to pick from I don't think he'd mind if we finished up. Just glad to hear he's okay.

This was by far my most difficult pick. That being said, cause I really have no clue how this is going to pan out - I'll take the '83 Texas Rangers

The dagger round will start Friday morning. There are no timeslots. Just post it when you're ready. Let's try to have all of them in by Sunday night.

Remember you get to dagger one of his four stadiums and one player.

I'll get a league number in a few days. I want to check each team before they enter. I'll post my roster after the dagger round so you can see the format to post yours. It's important you say which team each player comes from so I can tell that you have six from each team.

Sorry about the delay. Just getting access now No idea what fits but I don't want to delay any longer. 1933 Cubs
2/7/2019 7:23 PM
I'll close us out by bookending the '73 Dodgers with the '73 Giants.

It's dagger time. Feel free to post yours now.

My job was to dagger peekay. Having been in enough leagues with peekay I assumed he'd make a good team, and sure enough he has. The highlight is good pitching and an outfield of Andre Dawson, Tim Raines and Carl Yastrzemski, all in their primes.

There's not an obvious position to dagger to hurt him, and not a way to hurt his budget so I came down to these choices.

1. Jesse Orosco is a premier relief pitcher, much better than any other choices he has.

2. Yaz has a 418 OBP and is a 63 Red Sox. Maybe make it more difficult to get six Red Sox on the team by taking the best one.

3, Tim Raines is a monster leadoff batter with a 393 OBP and 90 steals with only 14 caught stealings.

I went back and forth and eventually decided on daggering Tim Raines. He's just too much of a beast at the top of a lineup to allow him to bat.

For stadiums I dagger Fenway Park because I don't want to see these singles hitters like Johnny Ray hitting 50 doubles.

I guess I’ll bat leadoff in the dagger round.

I have the distinct pleasure of presenting the dagger to redcped.

I will dagger Ted Simmons C of the ‘73 Cards. Simmons is a strong hitter & not known for his defense although he garnered solid ratings from WIFS in ‘73. I was all set to dagger Peter Edward Rose until
the 4th round selection of the ‘73 Cards. I feel hurting you behind the dish is my best dagger.

As for stadiums, it’s going to be 1943 Sportsman Park where the Browns called home. It’s a good hitters park & feel it’s the best to dagger.

These are SteveIzzy’s daggers, not mine. I’ll be posting my gifts to Toddcommish tonight. Need to do the stadium still and write it up.

I will correct my faux pas by daggering Ron Santo 3b from the ‘63 Chicago Cubs & Crosley Field.

Im taking away a 25 homer & .800+ OPS with a slick glove at the hot corner. Thought twice about putting the dagger in Peter Edward Rose, but in the end I liked Santo’s absence best for your collective teams.

I couldnt stand watching the ball hit over the LF wall bounce into the street & hit up against the laundry place back in the day so Crosley is gone.

The victim : Contrarian23
Quick Roster Analysis : Pitching is strong and deep, with no obvious superstar to dagger. Lineup shows nothing spectacular.
Weakness identified : First base offensive production. The 63 Chisox offer a platoon of Tommy McCraw (.688 OPS) and Joe Cunningham (better, but only 252 PAs). the 33 Bosox offer another platoon of Dale Alexander (.716 OPS) and Bob Seeds (.645 OPS). The Colt .45s give you Rusty Staub (.617 OPS) and Pete Runnells (.628 OPS). Then there are the Cardinals. Cocaine Keith was traded midseason, so you only get 244 PA worth of him. He was replaced in the lineup by George Hendrick, who had a solid season for the Cards, with an OPS of .846.

What fun would it be leaving you a middle of the lineup bat at a traditionally offensive position?

George Hendrick is daggered.

Ballpark : Gotta take away the most pitcher friendly park on the list, Colt Stadium

It is my honor to dagger toddcommish after blessing my other division mates with lousy teams.

I thought about Edd Roush, since he's definitely the best hitter you can roster. But the Twins have depth of outfielders, and you can replace the production one way or another.

I could dagger the fine-hitting catcher Bubbles Hargrave, but you could always toss in Earl Battey and do OK. And there really isn't an infield spot with a great player or a rarity that I see.

So I look at the pitching options available to you and see that after Dolf Luque, you really only have a lot of mediocre arms. I can't be certain you would roster his $12.5M salary, but I built a team with him easily enough and think it would be a much worse pitching staff without him. So, it is not your Luquey day.

I dagger Dolf Luque.

Three of your stadiums are very similar with marginal advantages that don't really make a big difference, but maybe you can find a way to make a +2 singles or -2 doubles park into a big plus for you. There's only one park with a more distinct factor, and that's the higher-offense Metropolitan Stadium. Since you'll have no pitching anyway, you might want to load up the lineup best you can and put them in the best hitting park. So ... let's kill that notion.

I dagger Metropolitan Stadium.

My hapless lineup looks forward to facing your hapless pitching staff in your middling stadium!
