I didn't think about this before, but I do have Goran with some high minutes for when Oscar fouls out, he's the guy they put in, not some random dude. I wonder if I lower that, he starts being the guy they put in over Barry. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

something I've discovered that may have been common knowledge before but I never saw anyone talk about: Clear the Bench. I always assumed it sat your starters and took the lowest minute guys on your depth chart, but that is NOT how it works AT ALL.

It takes the lowest minute guys on your team and just throws them in, even if they're starting. Kept happening to me last season with Tyson Chandler on two teams and is happening to me with Brent Barry now on three of them. It's quite frustrating to try and get the minutes right of a low-minute starter anyway, and I'm guessing this is part of the issue.

Was this common knowledge?
Years ago I realized that my lowest 5 players (depth chart minutes) would come in during blowouts. I don't know how ties are broken if it isn't a clear 5.

This makes more sense and appears correct. I misunderstood what you were saying earlier Ragged - I owe you an apology. I assumed it viewed the depth chart in tiers (with starting having the most priority), but it appears as though it doesn't. I've made adjustments where I could and will monitor it and report how big of a dumbass I was in the upcoming days.

As in players listed on the depth chart, but had the lowest amount of "scheduled minutes"?

No worries - it's a very strange system and I'm not sure I communicated it well.

The setting I've been stumped by lately is actually Slow Down - if I could ensure my team would always be burning 19-23 seconds off the clock I'd happily take the FG% hit in those situations, but I see my team shoot all the time with 10+ seconds left on the shot clock even in Slow Down. Makes me wonder if it's worth it at all instead of just sticking with Up Tempo and trying to run up the score instead of throttle the game

The five players with the lowest scheduled minutes.

Well, progress report:

In world 3, I had set the lowest five minute players on the depth chart to: Jason Terry, Wesley Person, Brandon Wright (unfortunately), Elton Brand, and Zelmo Beaty. Chris Boucher was on the DC for three more minutes than Brand and was starting, yet when "Clear the Bench" activated, Brand (2,455 minutes) remained on the sideline and Boucher (1,655 minutes) remained in the game. What the ****? He wasn't shooting a free throw, either, so there was no reason he had to remain in the game.

(ignoring the part where it put him at SG and Person at SF because that's been a problem forever).

Then 32-seconds later, it correctly put Brand in.

(and shifted Zelmo to SF & put Brand in at C... grrr)

-----------------------------

In World 4, the lowest 5 minutes on depth chart are Dragic, Terry, Person, Zelmo, and Bellamy. CTB comes in, and Barry & Brand are still in the game. Brand is shooting free throws, so that makes sense, but why is Barry there? He's on the DC for 38 minutes. The next stoppage of play, cool, Barry is taken out for Terry, but Brand remains in the game (and they inexplicably move him to C and Bellamy to SF. Again, known issue... arrrg but w/e). More than a minute later there's finally another stoppage of play & Dragic finally comes in for Brand. Then some other weird **** happens when the CTB threshold is passed: it brings in all of my starters (as it should) except Barry. They leave in Person, who has exactly zero minutes on the depth chart. Then once there's a stoppage of play and we're back above the CTB threshold, they bring in only Bellamy, taking Oscar out. Person is now my PG, Brand SG, Lucas SF, Bellamy PF, Howard at C. It's another minute before there's a stoppage of play and it correctly takes out my starters.

Fouls are on very aggressive and nobody has fouled out.

It's almost like once CTB is triggered, it just devolves into chaos. There seems to be no discernible pattern for when it makes substitutions on top of what position they put them in, even once you fall below the CTB threshold and it's supposed to put everyone back in. It's like it breaks something. I'm seriously rethinking how I use CTB.

Ouch. First **** sandwich in 4 Savages... gonna be a real long season man.

Defense. Assists. Avoiding fouls. Making your free throws. These are the fundamentals you have to ignore to build a winning squad.

Went 5-0, 9-1 on the day, not sure how many contenders I have but liking how the season has been shaping up.

I stick to missing shots and no rebounding.

I was going for the five-in strategy but did really load up two teams to be heavy contenders. Those two teams? Out of the playoffs right now. What I thought was going to be my worst team is tied for the best record in its league.

Now time for the out of conference match-ups to expose which ones are only doing well because of weaker divisions/conferences!

definitely channeling some Pex energy, 'heel, and I ******* love it.

Every cycle is like getting punched in the face. What a brutal season. Three picks I would very much like back (Walton, M Robinson, T Tyler). Robinson I would draft again, I like him a lot, but not on this team.
