One of the things that has been really interesting to see is which franchise eras have generated long runs in the draft.

In Round 6, we had seven straight players taken from the Chicago Cubs between 2013 and 2020, with every season except 2019 getting scooped up.

In Round 8, we had seven straight players taken from the mid-century Cleveland Indians, albeit spread across a wider swath of time (1936 to 1954).

Those Cubs teams were pretty picked clean by the end of that run, although I guess Anthony Rizzo was still sitting there for somebody. Conversely, I was surprised to see the run on Indians end so abruptly, since there was still a lot of meat on the bone of that 111-win 1954 squad. Al Rosen, Larry Doby, Bob Feller left dying on the vine (though of course some of their best seasons had already been used up).

Somehow this is the first I've ever heard of the Senators going by the Nationals name all that time. Even WIS has them listed as the Senators.

Didn't expect that pick. I'll go with

1942 Tom Ferrick
Cleveland Indians

About a third of the way through the draft and belts are clearly tightening with respect to salary. I have to think that spending $10M on Darin Erstad in Round 1 influenced whalers decision making when Ted Williams fell into his lap...

I haven't been tracking salaries, but I believe Erstad is still the most expensive position player taken thus far. 1965 Willie Mays was close at $9.5M. At a glance, I don't see any other hitters in the same zip code.

Plenty of expensive pitchers, though. Greinke, Perry, Luque, Arrieta, McNally, Cooper, Kershaw, Lemon, and Spahn are all over $10M...

Only two owners have more than one player in the $10M club: Ribbentrop (Perry, Luque, Lemon) and Ronthegenius (Arrieta and Spahn).

Meanwhile, I don't have anyone over $8M, so if y'all could toss some options my way, I'd appreciate it :).

I thought long and hard on Williams, but went with a better defensive player who still gets on base.

To be fair, I didn't hate the pick. Between Spence and Erstad, your outfielders are gonna run down a lot of balls.

Still a few picks to go, but I have the team ready to start Round 9 if things pick up.
