Thomas Season 28 Preview

Season 27 Record: 10-18 (6-10 NAC)
Returning Players: 12
Returning Leading Scorer: Domingo Diaz (8.7)
Returning Leading Rebounder: Domingo Diaz (5.6)
Returning Leading Assists: Mitchell Cummings (2.7)

Projected Starting Lineup
PG: Michael Farmer (Jr.)
SG: Mitchell Cummings (Sr.)
SF: George Kennedy (Sr.)
PF: Dennis Davis (Jr.)
C: Domingo Diaz (Jr.)

  • Coming off a poor season, Thomas has their sights set on a rebound. Perhaps sights are set too high. Four of the first five games in Thomas' schedule are against teams in the Top 20.
  • For a team that has 8 upperclassmen, Thomas often seems to not know what it is doing on either the offense or defensive end of the court. Insiders report that most of the players do not give it their all during practice and thus do not have the repititions to master the team's offensive and defensive sets.
  • Defense will be an issue for Thomas, which comes as no suprise to veteran observers of the team. Half of the team seems more preoccupied with getting down the court for their next rushed shot attempt instead of locking down on their man on the defensive end.
  • Offense is likely to be a year-long struggle for Thomas as well. Three of the projected starters shot well below 40% the season before. (Farmer 38%, Kennedy 38%, Davis 39%) The other two starters weren't exactly lights out with Diaz at 42% and Cummings at 43%. Opponents primary concern when Thomas has the ball is making sure there are enough rebounders under the basket by the time Thomas shoots. Tyronne Cobb is the likely 6th man for Thomas and shot 35% from the field last year so help is most assuredly not on the way.
  • What Thomas lacks in talent, they somewhat make up for in versatility. Thomas features several players than can play anywhere from point guard to power forward. It's debatable as to whether or not any of them can play any of these positions well, but at least Thomas features the ability to throw different looks at their opponents and that just might throw a rookie coach or two off their game.
  • Expect Thomas to struggle in a much improved North Atlantic Conference. Teams like Lasell, Castleton State should run circles around this Thomas team.
  • While Thomas will struggle in the North Atlantic, look for them to make a run in the South Division. Maine Farmington remains the odds on favorite for the second year running. But Thomas leads the list of contenders to win the South title should UMF slip along the way.

Projections
Non-Conference: 3-7
Conference: 11-5, 2nd Place NAC South
Postseason: Postseason Invitational Bid, Final Four Appearance
Final Record: 18-14

so, i probably won't have it posted today, but should get it up sometime tomorrow. i've got the top 32 teams, just haven't gone through the data thoroughly enough to post it yet.. i'll say this though: you're class is top 3, steve. easily.

why would i sched losses when i can sched wins? the fans come to the game, the players feel good about themselves, my conference does better so i get more recruiting dollars so i can one day challenge LV - seems like a no brainer to me

people will only do what is best for thier team - scheduling cupcake away games is how i enjoy HD - otherwise ull lose me and everyone else i reccomend to play it - FU mizzou

That truly would be a great loss to the HD community at large. Eloquent philosophers such as yourself are hard to find. I was on the fence about the whole scheduling cupcake strategy until you came along. My players will feel good about themselves...why didn't I think of that.

Anyway...don't let the door hit you on your way out.

I'll go slow so as not to lose the kiddie section. The fact that you felt it necessary to come over to the NAC (best conf in the world) board to "explain" your strategy for enjoying HD would likely cause one to think you are more troubled by it than you want us to believe.

Whatever floats your boat if fine by me. I certainly won't lose any sleep over it. As you are free to enjoy HD the way you want, others are just as free to critique your scheduling philosophy.

Carry on.
