This 6'6" 205-lb reliever used a difficult sidearm delivery to help Atlanta to the 1969 division title with 27 saves.

He appeared in every game of the LCS. Upshaw's career was sidetracked the following spring when he nearly severed a finger on his pitching hand while showing teammates how to dunk a basketball. He missed the entire season and never became the bullpen stopper he had been prior to his accident. - /www.baseballlibrary.com

After a promising 1969 season, Upshaw, the Braves' 26-years-young right-handed reliever, known for his unorthodox "submarine" delivery, tore up the ring finger on his pitching hand (at the time, some period accounts reported that he had actually severed it and had it re-attached, when in fact he had severed the nerves and the blood vessels in the finger) on an overhead awning (or was it a drain spout???) while demonstrating imaginary basketball dunks to a group of dinner guests, outside the restaurant where they had just dined. He missed the entire 1970 season (having at least two surgeries and rehabbing) and although he had the best W-L pct. season (11-6, .647) upon his return in 1971, he never again had an ERA under 3.00 (due in part to rules changes causing offense to rise). Cousin of George Stone

Starting with the '73 draft each owner is responsible for finding out who their draft-eligible rookies are... no more lists from Larry. I propose this for two reasons;
1.) one of my favorite things to do in WIS is research
2.) Larry's lists weren't complete anyway... there were players missing

ALSO;
3.) I'd like to make a little tweak to how a player would be eligible. If a player was on a franchise, no matter if he only had just 1 AB or 1 IP, he should be eligible. I don't like us limiting ourselves to the WIS search engine. Its not accurate in light of history... and this is supposed to be a "history" league
Just because you love to do WIS research doesn't mean the rest of us do. I do like doing some research, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to do the amount of research needed for this.

I forgot what the second change was. The first was that the last four rounds (22, 23, 24, 25) of this draft are open. But what was the second change?

Thanks, I'm getting older (aren't we all) and forget some things.

Okay, I guess I'll do this.

I was born on the day JFK was elected president. So, I've seen horrible things (John's, Robert's, Martin's assassinations, etc) and great things (first man on the moon, inception of the Super Bowl, Roberto Clemente, etc) as they happened. I have two wonderful girls (26 and 22) and my older girl is going to make me a grandfather in May, even though I told her I didn't want to be a grandfather until I was 50 (kids! what're you going to do?).

I grew up in Reading, Pa., rooting for the Pirates, Vikings, Bucks, and Bruins. I joined the USAF and learned Russian so I could be a translator. The Air Force eventually sent me to the U of Illinois on a scholarship. When I the USAF, I moved to St. Louis, where I grew to like the baseball Cardinals and the Rams. As you can see, it's been some lean years in sports for me, except for the Cardinals.

I'm a software engineer for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, so my job is about as safe as a job can be right now. I also create estate distribution documents (wills, trusts, powers of attorney, etc) on the side. I enjoy learning and so far I have a BS in Electrical Engineering from U of Illinois, a law degree from St. Louis University, and a psych degree from Maryville University in St. Louis. Oh yeah, my wife and I also run an animal rescue group in the greater St. Louis area called Mutts -n- Stuff. It's the only group in the area that actively rescues bully breed dogs and is proud of it. Since its inception in August of 2000, Mutts -n- Stuff has rescued and found homes for over 4000 animals.
