First, it's a sim game. That really doesn't play into this game.

Second, I'd much rather someone feel the pressure of needing two to extend the game than me knowing that. Nothing like standing on the field in the 7th(softball) and knowing the other team has to put runs on the board. Tells me how I need to play defense.

Here's what I was able to put together using this season's records. Best and worst in each division home v. away.

Team - H/A
AL
NYY - .703/.568
BAL - .481/.309

MIN - .605/.469
CLE - .432/.370

LAA - .605/.593
OAK - .494/.432

NL
PHI - .555/.593
WAS - .407/.321

StL - .568/.555
PIT - .494/.292

LAD - .617/.555
ARI - .444/.420

With every team except Philly, the home performance is better than the away. Whether its due to travel, day vs. night games, or players better suited for their home park, I think one could conclude that playing at home does favor a team in most cases. I highly doubt most GMs build teams around their park. Does Colorado go and get the best pitching available to counter the homerun tendency they had? Nope, they went and bought a machine to store the baseballs in.

I think IRL most GMs just try to get the best players they can. So the argument that the only HFA that should be afforded is building your team around your park is kind of a weak one to make. The only other possibility is putting something into the engine code. Should WIS program some "x-factor" into the code to allow the hometeam a better chance of winning? I guess that depends on how closely WIS feels HBD is mirroring RL or how they would like the system to work.

I've read most of the arguments and truth be told, a lot of time has been spent on both sides of the argument to debate something that I don't think WIS has any intention of changing. Even if they did, the timeline would be sometime 6-12 months from now. I mean they mentioned they have 3 updates planned. That shows you right there they already have things planned, but they want to make small changes and test things as they go.

That some believe they are all-knowing, and thus are unable to hear reasoned arguments contrary to their opinions. If you build your team properly, you will have a home-field advantage. It does not require programming, just common sense. If your park enhances hits and is tough on homers, and you acquire players who get on base a lot and pitchers who are prone to long balls but have low WHIP, you have your advantage. If you draft swing-happy bashers who are lousy base-runners, and pitchers who give up a ton of ground balls, you will soon be starting posts about how unfair the sim is.

Nope

I'm pretty sure the Yanks made an effort to sign LH bats and arms for the longest time. Still seems like they end up with a bunch of LH hitters(or SH).

Their acquistions this year were the best 1B on the market.

Gold glove 1B, all-star and switch-hitting silver slugger - Mark Teixeira

Cy young winner, all-star and best FA pitcher - C.C. Sabathia

2008 strikeout leader, and solid pitching - AJ Burnett

They have the most money and went out and signed the best (and most expensive) FAs available

Swisher was also acquired. SH.

Damon and Matsui were FA signings. LH.

Cabrera, Gardner, Posada and Cano were homegrown. SH or LH.

Jeter and A-Rod are the only position players of significance who bat RH exclusively.

Did the Dodgers GM go out and get Manny because he causes drama everywhere he goes? or because he needed a Righty to hit in a park that has exactly the same dimensions in LF as it does in RF?

Or did the Dodgers just need a power hitter and he was the best option available, even if it meant spending a ton of cash and putting up with his BS

I don't pretend to know what any MLB GM does. Or why they do it.

Can you say the same?

Then what insight do you have into the decision making process of the average GM?

They have millions of dollars and dozens (hundreds?) of scouts, coaches, etc. to work with... do you really think that any of us can compare running an 8-, 9-, or 10-figure organization to our little $24.95 fifedoms?

$252M and $275M is a lot of money to spend on someone RH if you are trying to stockpile ies. They didn't get Swisher because of his hitting (.262 BA being his best in the last 6 years). Switch hitting is always a nice thing because it offers the best opposition to both LH and RH pitching. I'll take A-Rod and Jeter v. Damon and Matsui

This is funny. Do you think they got him for his glove? Or is BA the be all to end all of hitting prowess? Do tell why they picked up Swisher. Please.

Furthermore, you only play half your games at home. It would be stupid to load up on LH hitters only.
