I just abandoned world III, where I had my greatest overall winning percentage. 5 full seasons ago I took on Quinnipiac and got an at-large bid in my 4th season, yet was unable to move up to anything decent (and my standards were really low).
I followed up that season with a 19 win season and the best I could get was Hampton (with big rep hit I'm sure). So I just , and took the $100 I'd spend on world 3 in the next year with me.
In real life, any low DI coach getting an at-large bid would certainly get promoted. Those schools the vast majority of the time get 1 bid per conference.
I'm not a fan of how low DI coaches get trapped in HD, even when they show some success, while DII coaches get to leapfrog them to mid-majors.
It is blatantly not fair to expect low DI coaches to make the postseason multiple times (say, 3) in a four year period. The players they get are just too awful to be able to compete every year. Generally, each postseason appearance takes a 3-4 year cycle to build to.
My advice to anybody who cares to listen: Avoide low DI schools. Plenty of coaches greater than me are still paying to be in the Northeast conference. Screw that.
As for that $100, I guess I'll buy a few more UFC ppvs. I'll still spend it on entertainment - I'd rather have stayed in world III though. But I'm not going to keep on paying to be stuck while less qualified coaches from DII with less success get to leapfrog me.
Tweak the promotion logic. DII coaches would not get a mid-major job over a DI coach who lead their team to an at-large bid. Get real.
