Game 118: Oil Can Boyd strikes out 11 and comes within one out of pitching a complete game as the Spectres beat Philly 12-1 in the opener. Greg Gagne and Candy Maldonado each hits two doubles, and Randy Velarde drives home three runs. It's Boyd's tenth win of the season.
Game 119: Montreal puts six on the board in the first and cruises to a 16-0 win. Charlie Leibrandt throws seven shutout innings to even his record at 9-9. Candy Maldonado and Mark Carreon each has a three-run homer and four RBI. Mike Marshall and Ron Karkovice each hit two doubles.
Game 120: Montreal builds a comfortable lead, then explodes for 13 runs in the ninth to finish off a 22-4 win. Candy Maldonado homers and drives home six runs. Jay Buhner, recalled from the minors, hits his first homer of the season. Mark Carreon hits a pinch hit three run homer, then walks later in the inning. Dennis Rasmussen has two hits and three RBI.
We host Pittsburgh next.

Game 121: Scott Erickson has a rare bad start, and the bullpen doeesn't provide much relief; the Spectres fall behind 8-5 after the Boilers put two on the board in the top of the eighth. Suddenly, however, the Philly karma returns. Montreal scores TWELVE runs in the eighth and walks away with a 17-8 win. Mark Carreon again makes two plate appearances in the same inning after entering as a pinch hitter.. he has two hits and three RBI. Candy Maldonado and Ken Griffey Jr. hit home runs, and Ken Caminiti drives in three with a double.
Game 122: Sid Fernandez works his usual magic on the Spectres, pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. Montreal rallies late against fatigued Boiler relievers but falls short in a 5-3 loss.
Game 123: After several injury-plagued seasons, Oil Can Boyd has made a spectacular comeback; he improves to 11-6 with seven strong innings in the series finale as Montreal wins 8-4. Jay Buhner hits two doubles and a home run while Candy Maldonado reaches the 100-RBI mark.
We complete this round of divisional play at New York.

Game 124: Jay Buhner continues his torrid streak with two more extra base hits and Charlie Leibrandt throws six shutout innings to record his 10th win as Montreal shuts out the division-leading Cosmos 11-0. Candy Maldonado adds three hits, including his 34th double, and three RBI.
Game 125: New York's Bobby Witt walks seven in 6.1 innings, but the Spectres have a hard time bringing any of those runners home. Candy Maldonado takes a platinum sombrero (0-5, five Ks) and strands 6, and the Cosmos win it 4-2.
Game 126: Montreal unexpectedly takes a series from the Cosmos, winning the finale 7-3 as Candy Maldonado snaps out of his slump with two RBI and Scott Erickson pitches five solid innings to improve his record to 8-3. Erickson helps his own cause with an RBI single, his first hit of the season.
Montreal is off to Atlanta for their final series against the Bull Run.
7/8/2007 7:03 AM
Game 127: Well, this is a little embarrassing. Kevin Brown, 3-15 on the season, allows only one run in seven innings while Atlanta bludgeons Bill Krueger. Only a seven-run rally in the ninth makes this one respectable, but the Spectres fall to Atlanta 10-8.
Game 128: Montreal gets back on track, beating Atlanta 9-3, but only through another seven-run ninth inning. Ken Griffey Jr., Candy Maldonado, and Mark Carreon each hit homers off Jeff Brantley. Brady Anderson's two-run double caps the scoring.
Game 129: Montreal gets out of the gate early for a change, taking a 6-3 lead after five, but Boyd tires in the sixth and allows Atlanta to tie the score. More late-inning pyrotechnics are needed to win the finale, 13-9. Ken Griffey Jr. has five hits and Candy Maldonado hits two doubles, a home run, and drives home five.
We return home to host San Diego.

Game 130: Montreal's Charlie Leibrandt outduels 18-game winner Bruce Hurst as the Spectres shut out the Leaguers, 7-0. Tony Phillips has three extra base hits and Mark Carreon hits a pinch hit homer. Suddenly the Spectres are over .500 at 66-64!
Game 131: The Leaguers hit Scott Erickson hard, scoring five in the fifth, and coast to an easy 8-5 win over Montreal. Tony Phillips had three more hits, two for extra bases, but Leaguer starter Tom Bolton shuts the rest of the lineup down.
Game 132: Bill Krueger holds the Leaguers to one run in 5.2 innings and Tony Phillips scores three times as the Spectres take their second straight series over San Diego with a 6-4 win.
We host Houston (88-44) next.
7/10/2007 6:54 AM
Game 133: Both teams pile up a lot of hits, but Houston does a better job of bringing them home and wins the opener 8-5. Greg Gagne hits a solo home run but strands six. Ken Griffey Jr. has three hits but also strands six, and Candy Maldonado is 1-5 with seven stranded.
Game 134: Houston drops us back to .500 with a 10-6 beating. Jose Lind, who, if I remember correctly, had a HUGE game against us last season, hits three doubles and a single to drive home six runs. Jim Gott gets shelled again in relief. Candy Maldonado hits his 40th double.
Game 135: Montreal salvages the final game, getting seven shutout innings from Charlie Leibrandt and a two-run double from Candy Maldonado. Rick Aguilera picks up his 25th save in a 4-2 win.
Back over .500, Montreal heads to Cincinnati.
7/11/2007 6:44 AM
Game 136: Ken Griffey Jr. hits a two-run homer in the first, his 20th of the season, and Ron Karkovice hits a three-run shot in the second. Griffey adds another two-run blast in the seventh and the Spectres take the opener 7-5. Tony Phillips reaches base five times (2-2, 3 walks).
Game 137: Montreal gets another win, getting seven strong innings from rookie Alex Fernandez and three RBI from Candy Maldonado. Jay Buhner adds a three-run homer, Ken Griffey Jr. scores four times, and the Spectres win 9-2. Fernandez improves to 2-4.
Game 138: Rick Aguilera allows a two-run homer to Lee Stevens in the bottom of the ninth, then another run to tie the score! Montreal can do nothing against the Stinger bullpen and Cincy eventually wins it in the 14th on Doug Dascenzo's single.
We return home, shattered, to face Frisco.
7/12/2007 6:54 AM
Game 139: Montreal scores five in the first off former Spectre John Cerutti, but things fall apart shortly afterwards. Frisco scores in each inning from the fourth through the ninth, limited to a single tally only in the eighth, as they take the opener 15-8.
Game 140: The Spectre pitching holds together much better in game two, with the bullpen contributing six scoreless innings in a 6-3 win. Jay Buhner hits a pinch-hit, bases-loaded double to decide it in the sixth inning. Charlie Leibrandt gets his 13th win.
Game 141: Pitching on one day's rest, John Cerutti allows only one unearned run in 6-plus innings against his old team. Bill Krueger, however, matches him pitch for pitch. Neither team scores in the seventh, eighth, or ninth and we go to extras tied at one. Tim Crews allows to Frisco runners in the tenth, but gets out of the jam. With one out in the bottom half, Bryan Harvey walks Ken Caminiti and Ken Griffey Jr. Candy Maldonado hits a Texas Leaguer to center, and Caminiti comes home with the winner just ahead of the throw.
We travel to St. Louis to face the Blue Storm.
7/13/2007 6:56 AM
Game 142: Another pitcher's duel to open the series in St. Louis. Scott Erickson throws six scoreless innings, but former Spectre Andre Dawson hits a solo shot off Bill Sampen in the eighth. Meanwhile, Montreal manages only one run off Tom Glavine, on a single by Jay Buhner. In the top of the ninth, Steve Farr walks the first three batters, then throws a wild pitch to score the lead run. Ken Caminiti follows with a two-run single and Steve Olin gets the last two outs in the bottom half when Rick Aguilera struggles, earning his third save.
Game 143: Dennis Rasmussen struggles early, but Ron Karkovice hits a three-run homer in the sixth and the bullpen throws three scoreless innings to preserve a 7-6 win. Tony Phillips and Mark Carreon also hit home runs; Candy Maldonado hits his 44th double.
Game 144: The odds of a .500 season look a lot better after a sweep of St. Louis. Montreal breaks open a 3-3 game in the eighth with a three-run outburst and the bullpen holds on (barely), with Rick Aguilera earning his 29th save in a 6-5 win.
At 75-69, Montreal will host Los Angeles next.
7/14/2007 7:10 AM
Game 145: Charlie Leibrandt throws eight shutout innings and hits a double as the Spectres win the opener, 5-3. The bullpen is shaky in the ninth but Rick Aguilera sets things right with his 30th save. Brady Anderson hits a two-run homer.
Game 146: Bill Krueger allows 10 hits in five innings, while LA's Jamie Navarro holds the Spectres to a single run in his six innings of work. Navarro improves to 11-3 as the Looters even the series with a 5-3 decision.
Game 147: Scott Erickson throws five shutout innings and helps his own cause with two RBI as the Spectres take the series with a 5-1 win in the finale. Erickson gets his 10th win; Pete O'Brien hits a two-run home run and Ken Griffey Jr. hits a solo shot.
Montreal will head to Wrigley to take on the Bootleggers in our final non-divisonal series.
7/15/2007 6:55 AM
Game 148: Montreal scores three in the first, three in the ninth, and does just enough inbetween to walk away with an 8-4 win. Ken Caminiti drives in three; Ken Griffey Jr. and Candy Maldonado have two RBI each. Dennis Rasmussen gets the win, improving his record to 8-12.
Game 149: Candy Maldonado homers in the top of the ninth to tie the score at two, but with two outs in the bottom half, Randy Velarde throws wild to first, allowing a runner on base. Wayne Edwards allows two consecutive singles after that and the Bootleggers win, 3-2.
Game 150: Despite recent improvement, the Spectres are not ready to win a series at Wrigley. Chicago takes the finale, 5-2 behind a fatigued Dennis Tewksbury. Jeff King's three-run homer off Charlie Leibrandt is the key hit.
At 78-72, we have a pretty good shot of finishing .500 or better. We host Philadelphia next.
