even if a run is scored, batted balls that are outs dont lead to runs. thats what the stats show.

chance of benefit: tiny
benefit: tiny
...is countered by the chance of something disastrous (like a dp)
chance: very tiny
benefit: hugely negative. Catastrophic.

What a bad analogy. Are you worried about your tendancy towards "painting the other side?" Worried it might mean you're bankrupt, and have nothing else?
I'm fine with the ball in play, you see. I'm not saying it's SO BAD - just that it's NOT BETTER.
No reason to prefer it over a K.
So, good analogy: I would have no preference over going out (where we might get mugged) or stayin in (where our oven might asplode).
But then, you get bad analogy from poor thinkers.
