IMO there should be no excuse for two people not playing 2000+ min. That is the rule and if anything if you don't play them enough during the season people should figure it out in enough time to up their minutes to reach the requirements. However I will agree that both of these leagues have way to high caps that will lead to very similar teams especially the all O team.

I filled out my regular rotation in the all-O league, and I was only at $44.5 million. 52 is way too high for that one.
10/30/2008 6:58 PM
That is another point I was going to bring up. Even 47 is a bit steep for that league, considering that the most valuable player is 7.5M.

I suggest changing the all offense league to 42M.

Yes it is only an inattentive/foolish owner that won't notice a minute problem.

because there is a salary valuation imbalance for D ratings which really dont have sufficient impact

No player on your roster can have a defensive rating higher than 50 - and you MUST have at least 2 players who play over 2000mins each with a defensive rating of 30 or under.

Penalty of breaking the 200min rule with at least 2 players with offensive rating under 30 = missing postseason and any overall points that would have come from qualifying for postseason. You would still keep your reg. season points.

Just to clarify... once the season is done, there have to be at least 2 players on our rosters who played 2,001 simleague minutes with D-ratings of 30 or under?

Also, the second paragraph needs to be adjusted to say "...with defensive rating at 30 or under = missing postseason..." for the sakes of clarity and consistency.

correct about the grammatics...sorry.

Obviously I will have to monitor this during the season but I would hate to get screwed despite following the intention of the rule
The rule is the rule...2 players at over 2,000mins w/ defense rating of 30 or under.

I guess my only other comment about this league is the same problem I have come up with forming the platoon team. It's the small player pool for these leagues. I will be very surprised if the Finals teams in both of these leagues don't share at least one player/season. How many people are lacing up Steve Nash in the all offense league? I bet over half.

I suppose these are opinions that should have been voiced before, but I didn't really do my team research until the vote was finalized.

Anybody agree/disagree? Is there anything that can be done about these perceived faults in two of our leagues?
It's extreme on purpose...no point in having such a rule if it doesn't have to actually be used.

These are not "faults" just because you don't care for the rule. There is no point in having a rule if it is not going to be enforced, and the punishment is such as to encourage STRONGLY that you follow the rules.
10/31/2008 12:45 AM
you misunderstand (or only read what you choose to). The faults I refer to are in the small player pool and bloated salary cap. I was essentially dismissing my issue with the rule by saying "it will only be a problem if I let it." That means I will monitor it and it's my own dumb fault if I get kept out of the postseason.

I think two of our leagues have small player pools, and that will reduce the fun and challenge you face creating a team, especially when the roster you worked so hard on is essentially duplicated by half of your opponents.

Take the all O league for example. I bet 50% of teams will feature an Oscar/Tiny Archibald lineup, and anybody not starting Moses Malone at center is an idiot.

I realize you have put a lot of work in to this but you'll appreciate it more in the end if we fix this now as opposed to endless bickering once the seasons start.

The rules are OK, but I agree that some of the caps need to be lowered. Most of our caps were general numbers we used to use in leagues before the latest update. The latest update has really lowered saleries. A 52 mill cap anymore is way over the top. If 5 starters averaged 9M each there's no way you would need 7M to fill the bench.
10/31/2008 9:17 AM
In fairness though, there's no written rule that we have to use as much of the available salary cap as possible. If you like your team's structure at $46M in a $52M league, then why should you spend the extra $6M?
10/31/2008 9:32 AM
I agree nobody is saying you have to spend all of the cap. Why I want to lower it is so that there is a little more diversity in lineups. If everyone has TOO MUCH money then they will all use the most expensive lineup for fear of being overmatched by that exact same lineup. That makes a league lame. When I was in the beyond the big five 52M league almost everyone in the league used Chris Paul and Larry Bird, and when Christspeak beat me in the finals we had four of the same players in THE SAME SEASON in our starting fives. We don't want that for this league do we? It makes it less about skill and more about making the most boring decisions with your salary. Just say NO to cookie cutter teams in the all O league.
10/31/2008 1:14 PM
The difference for that league, I think, will lie in the SG, SF, and PF positions. I think we're going to see the same 2 or 3 players in the PG spot, and probably the same Mosaic C on most all teams. The differentiation and thus the challenge lies in the in-betweeners.
10/31/2008 2:42 PM
There will be a lot of 38-45 win teams in the offense league. There just isn't enough available to differentiate yourself.

Yes, you will be DQed.

There was an owner last year who had a player fall 10 minutes played below the requirement. He was out of the playoffs.

got bent over with Matt Harpring on that rule once
