A trading question for the vets Topic

1. If YOu'REnot sure, don't trade. No one else knows how you're building your team.

2. There is this thing called the wild card. Two of them actually.

What he said. And, in general (meaning almost always), 3-for-1s are a bad idea. Unless you're a trade rapist.

As far as the wild card goes, I probably have a shot at it, but with my pitching, unless I catch some luck, i'm almost a sure 1 and done, plus I have a pretty week farm system, so I am looking at reloading.

What about this proposal:

my guy:

Their guy:

P.S. I pay the rest of this years salary in the proposal.

Thomas is a legit ML SP, declining rapidly soon. Romero is a legit AAA pitcher. Can't see if Thomas' contract goes another season, but if it did I sure wouldn't want it.

yeah, I have him next season too. I am basically asking with these questions, what is the value of certain types of players?
10/20/2009 3:32 PM
That salary will badly damage your rebuilding efforts, and if you can dump it I would think you should take the opportunity to do so.
10/20/2009 3:35 PM
Can I get more for Thomas closer to the deadline with a contending team?
10/20/2009 3:39 PM
Strikeout... a word to the wise: Make sure you're getting advice from people with successful, active teams.

Speaks for itself.

Well iain, you have a championship. What is your opinion?

Thomas is at least worth a player who will make the majors.

Romero is not that player.

I don't usually make it my business to tell people how to run their team(s), as I don't pretend to have any secrets, but since you asked....

Goya is a nice hitter with at least enough defensive ability to get by even in a COF spot (ideally a weak armed LF, but I've seen worse in RF, too), locked up for a few seasons at a good price.

Moore's worth something, but the other two are turds. I wouldn't make the 1st deal you describe, regardless of the direction of my team. You have to get value for value.

As for the second one, the former judge Clarence Thomas is still good, although he's not the ace he once was. You should be able to get more than a Mop Up guy for him, and certainly a fair bit more if you're paying his salary. Thomas is still a legit ML SP, and he has value. The player being offered to you is a Rule 5-quality arm.

In short, accept neither offer. They're trying to screw you.

Thanks, that was my feelings on both trades. I just got to thinking that I might be getting to greedy.

My opinion is that Hell froze over when that happened.
