24 Seasons, 24 teams-Team Selection Draft Topic

Around 5:00 or 6:00 PM this evening I will set up a clock for tomorrow so that we finish team selection. So far I am getting a majority favoring a cap of $180 Mil for this season.

I've really agonized over this pick. On the one hand, I was fortunate enough to get a good draft slot and can take a top franchise; on the other hand, with the new update I don't seem to be putting together really competitive teams so this may be a good time to take a lower-quality team since I'll have to take them eventually anyway. Using that rather convoluted logic, I'm going to go with Minnesota/Washington and put them in the soon-to-be-gone HumpDome.

Dave:

Can you shed a little light on how the expansion teams are determined, mainly because I was considering taking the NY Mets, who are pretty much on the bubble since they started in '62.

Is it as simple as the 8 newest franchises that are taken will go into the Central Divisions? Would that mean that someone like the Mets could potentially get bumped into a division with a franchise like the Yankees?, or the Royals get bumped into a division with the WhiteSox?

I assume the Diamondbacks, Rockies, Marlins, Mariners, Tampa Bay, and Toronto would be guaranteed as an expansion team. But where do the Mets, Royals, Houston, Expos/Nats, Padres, Rangers/Senators, and the Brewers/Pilots fall if more than eight post-1960 franchises are taken?

Just seems risky to take a team like the Mets should the 16 teams from 1901-pres fail to get taken...

Would there be a way to guarantee that only the first 8 post-1960 teams are allowed?

Dok-from the league rules:

"Each season all 16 of the original franchises must be selected along with 8 of the expansion franchises."

Only 8 expansion franchises may be taken-after the 8th expansion franchise is selected any remaining selections must be from the original 16 franchises. All post 1960 teams are "expansion franchises"

Also from the league rules:

"The 8 chosen expansion franchises will be placed in the NL Central and AL Central divisions. Thus at least 2 expansion franchises will make the playoffs every season."

I will set up a clock for tomorrow late this evening or first thing tomorrow morning. Looks like at least 12 teams will have been selected today. I will do 30 minute intervals so we should finish tomorrow. I will enter my team and get a league number as soon as possible after I make my team selection.

I will communicate a decision on salary cap as well late this evening or early tomorrow morning. I have 18 responses so far and it is looking like a $180 Mil cap is the consensus, with 13 favoring a lower cap than $255 Mil. There is a strong feeling, which I agree with, that the cap should be the same for all seasons.

A-ha!!! maybe I should've read the League Rules more carefully... Right there the whole time. Sorry Commish - I'm an idiot.

Okay then, I will take the New York Mets; Shea Stadium.

no problem, Dok-I probably should have repeated the rules in this thread.

I will continue the expansion theme with the Seattle Mariners in Safeco.
