Probably just slightly better than completely random. They say they "adjusted" the numbering system, but I haven't seen a significant change.

Wait are you saying players ID #'s are in a order of how good the players are rated?

No, but there was a theory that players are created in groups, of roughly equal quality, with sequential plaer IDs.

And... it wasn't a theory. Haven't verified whether they changed it or not.

I usually max on college scouting and punt on HS under the theory that I'd rather get maximum accuracy for a sub-set of players, than lesser accuracy for a larger overall set.

With a $20M/Col; $0/HS budget I normally see somewhere like 5-10 high school players of which roughly half are eventually taken by someone in the first couple of rounds.

This high percentage is apparently a result of natural selection at work: Because of the way the draft rankings are weighted, only high HS OVRs show up in the first 500 prospects. So even when there's no budget at all, high projections are still, on average, indicative of high expected value.

So you will probably see a few players worth drafting - the question is how to know which ones.

Draft lists just came out. I can see ratings for 51 players (32 position, 19 pitchers). Haven't started to look at them yet to see how they look.

I may have to abandon my "punt the first rounder for a Type D" strategy because I've only got $4m in prospect money to play with. That may not be enough for an initial offer to a non-slot money first round draftee, even picking at the #26 slot.

I thought you made out alright. You got a decent RP- probably the best in a very poor draft at that position.

going down to 0/0 is something i would do if i figured my team would be stacked for the next 5+ years and i wasn't going to have any picks in the top 25.

i rarely have a first round pick in any of my worlds, cause i have too much pride to rebuild and i sign at least one type A about 2/3 of the time. it's generally an exercise in restraint for me to not sign a type A.

anyhow, you can use the extra money to replenish your farm system via IFA and then sign type A free agents to 1 yr $3 mill deals to your heart's content. i actually think i may try this strategy in MG...you can see how it works out for me firsthand!

Everybody else appears to be crap, but I haven't taken too close a look at them yet.

So you took over for someone who went 0/0 on the draft but invested in advanced scouting?

Doesn't sound too smart.

In the case of my team (again, I've inherited this team from the previous owner after the season started), the budgets are set at $0 for HS and College, and also for IFA. I assume the prospect budget was set at the minimum of $6m . . . it's at $4m now, I assume due to auto-budget transfers after arbitration (that was before I got there). Last season's College budget was also $5m, so I'm guessing he brought it down to $1m for this season and then lost that $1m due to an auto-budget transfer as well. It looks like he was trying to funnel all the scouting money into payroll (currently at $122m).

It's interesting to note that the AS budget was set at $18m, and training/medical were both set at $15m. I would think that if you're going to be jacking up your player payroll for an "all-in, win now" stategy that your AS budget would be the first to go since projections don't really matter in that scenario.

But hey, at least it allows you to see how your draft went.

I'm guessing the other half of the alias had real low advanced scouting.
