Ellison, your southern team went to final four because of spd/ath, defensive rating had nothing to do with it..

That comment is very very false and leaves out so many parts of the equation.

i would agree... but i would definitely want it to be from a d3 team.

at d1 , most of the top teams have a bevy of 90+ defenders. it seems fairly rare these days to see a d1 team with a poor defender in a starting position.

The flip side to this is i would like to see a D1 coach have a majority of his team be poor defenders and start 3 or 4 poorDE guys. you see this in d3 all the time, but i havent really seen it at D1.

i actually may be the ginuea pig with my syracuse-tark team next season. for some combination of reasons, i have had to settle for some lesser players in recent years, and since we run fb/press/zone, we definitely dont want to sacrifice ath/sp, and so in several cases i sacrificed DE. so far, i havent had to put any of these weak defenders in the starting lineup, but next year i may have two or three of them starting and several more coming off the bench. havent decided whether to play zone , press or combo.

any suggestions as to which defense would be a better choice for a poorDE team?

didnt mean to confuse the matter when i said grant needed to show me 20 or 30 games like this. i just pulled that out of my hindquarters.

When my wife tells me of chores to do she says I'm DEF. It's just one of many interlocking factors in HD and relationships.

A fine point and that did not go beyond my notice either, but even at a -3, a guy with that SPD/ATH disadvantage doesn't shut my guy down without a high DEF rating.

Several responses about statistics, and surely, my thing I posted here was anecdotal, but it happened several times in past seasons as well. Perhaps I'll start keeping an Excel sheet on it with some other variables.
