Who knows. IF you did win at home it would be a whole different subject. You could also say if that game was simulated more times there would be games where you lost by over 30, so no the fact you lost by 1 that game doesn't mean you would have won at home.

Didn't mean to delete my post. Was trying to fix the formatting. Anyway, the text is in furry's reply above.

An entire conference (the Missouri Valley) got together to bulk up on the road games to help their RPI's. But I don't blame them. If the selection committee is going to give a hefty RPI bonus for playing road games, then teams shouldn't be blamed for taking them up on exactly what they are encouraging in the first place, by offering a large incentive for playing on the road. It seems pretty stupid to specifically change the RPI formula to give a big bonus for playing road games, and then turn around and criticize/penalize teams for playing a lot of road games. What'd they expect!? Isn't that exactly what they were aiming for?

I am not saying its bad. I've done it my fair share of road games for the RPI boost. I also knew I would end up winning a few of those games too so I would have some quality wins which is what he lacked. The road games is what gave him a boarder line NT RPI, not the quality of opps he played and or beat. When you look past the RPI section of his resume, he doesn't have anything else other then 1 good win and a couple of "almost win" losses. Is that good enough for you? Do you think he should be in the NT with just that?

In a vacuum, without comparing to the other bubble team resumes, my inclination is that no, they shouldn't have gotten in. Only 1 Top 50 win, and only 3 Top 100 wins. I wasn't arguing that. Just the implication that there was something wrong with playing all road games. Just be sure to win some of them!

BC got in and Ole Miss didn't with a 10-6 SEC record, 52 RPI and a 15-12 overall record.

I don't think any team with 15 wins should get an At-Large bid though so I'm not here stating a case for me.

I was not saying there is anything wrong with it. I am just saying the only reason this is even a discussion is due to the all road games inflating his RPI and making him look more worthy then he is. If you look beyond RPI (which not many coaches do) then this should not even be a question he should not be in the NT with an at large. He tried to game the system into a good RPI by losing to great teams on the road, but he would have been better off just playing slightly less competition and doing better then 2-8 in non conf - or whatever his record was.

The only possible way to generate a good RPI for me is to play a tough non-conf schedule on the road. I usually shoot for 5-5. I was very close to achieving that again this year.

You call it gaming the system, I say it's the only way I've seen that I can successfully generate enough quality wins. So I might agree with the idea that I didn't have enough quality wins this year but I completely disagree that the approach is wrong. I think I have some experience in the matter and can speak with some credibility on it.

I didn't say it was wrong. I just said that in doing so that is the only reason you have an RPI of being questioned for the NT, but losing to them isn't good enough. Yeah, if you went 5-5 you would have had the resume and a better RPI to be in the NT.
