I made the nt with Columbus St a long while back as a 61 seed. It only happens at D2 or D3 though.

keep in mind it's not just RPI. Overall record, road record and last ten count for quite a bit.

There are 108 more teams in D3 than in D2. At D3, an RPI of 50+ rarely makes the NT. But, at D2, teams in the 60's qualify quite frequently.

I got in with a 65 RPI at NW Missouri State in Phelan a few seasons ago. Yet again, I played in a brutal conference and had a few wins over top-50 RPI teams.

a team in my conf made it in as a 63 about 4 seasons ago. I was pretty shocked. Felician I think or something like that.

If people look at RPI as more of a general grouping then there will be less shock as to a 60 getting in and a 50 being out. The perception of the RPI by the users creates a big part of the problem.

Thank you.

The 70 rpi team lost in the first round of the CT, had 18 wins, and didn't beat a top 50 rpi team in conference play.

This is a big factor too. Fewer potential "upset" bids thus allowing more "at-large".
Remember, if the RPI was perfect and no upsets then the top 64 teams by RPI should be in. So if there were few upsets in CT play your odds incresed.
