To get back on topic, if Cambridge's career ended today, I'm not sure I'd vote him in if he wasn't on my team. As iain said, he's a borderline player. 2 All-Star appearances? That's it?

i think this type of player gets hurt with awards and AS appearances due to not having a full-time position

8 times in his career, he got over 100 games at 2B. I'd say that was his full-time postion. But I do understand what you're saying. Due to the nature of HBD, it's easy to move a 3B into RF or a SS to 3B when needed. That hardly ever happens in MLB. Witness Youk in LF for the Sux. He plays a good 1B, an acceptable 3B and looked like a little leaguer in LF.

right, if this player had spent his entire career at 3B lets say, he might have 2-5 silver sluggers, gold gloves, and all-star appearances...that would make his candidacy look that much stronger, although it wouldn't have really changed his value (in fact one could argue that his value was greater due to his flexibility)

Jamey gets two hits in the PM game as we lock down, at worst, the 5 seed. Still have an outside shot at the 3 seed as Jamey pursues 2000 hits.

I agree that some players get shafted in some of the awards due to their ability to play multiple positions. Enrique Ortiz failed to make the All-Star Game this year due to him splitting time at 4 positions.

He's in in my book (depending on the stats of your World, I guess). Awards are overrated. Enough of them should get you in, but too few shouldn't keep you out. That's a LONG time for a 2B to be a .925 OPS hitter. His 6-8 season run of prime years was really special.

What they did with that basket was kind of silly and ridiculous. However, to make this about women's sports in general, while ignoring, for example, Favre/Strahan, is not cool. People don't take women's sports seriously for lots of reasons. This is not one of them.

I would vote him in the HOF and he is definitely going to seed.

I'd vote against him. He's a solid player but among the best ever in your world? Probably not.

Gee, good thing that real life ML ballplayers don't stick around past their primes just to reach milestones...

As a middle of the diamond fielder, he might be. As you know, you can only see the top 5 in BA/HR. #5 in BA is .322, #5 in HR is 539. Of those, only 1 played anywhere but 1B/LF/DH with any regularity.

And, as you can see, he pretty much split time in CF/LF.

All-Star appearances are interesting. Basically, you just have to be one of the top TWO at your position in your league during a given season. That may sound easy, but depending on how stacked that position is, you might never make it even if you're the 3rd best 2B for ten straight years.

It ain't like MLB where they can take 5 firstbasemen because they're just pinch hitters or DHs. In Ruth, only 13 players hit the 7 All-Star Game threshhold, and since Marvin Aurilia dominated the ASG selections for his entire career, THREE guys hit 600 homers and didn't make more than 3 ASGs.
