Here's the problem.

Joe owns a team for a number of seasons and brings his IFA budget down to $2m for whatever reasons. He now decides that he wants to bring it up to $14m next season, but is constrained by the $4m change limit. So he creates an alias, Bob, and has the team transferred from Joe to Bob. He sends in a ticket (as Bob) and says "I'm a new owner, can you reset my budget?".

And just like that, he has found a way to get around the $4m budget limit that everybody else is constrained by.

Or if he wanted to, he could create an alias and sign up as a new owner the following season and the budgets would reset themselves. What's the difference? The end result is the same just a different way to get there. So would you rather a guy like me go the honest route and ask for the budgets reset because I didn't screw them up and I took over the team in hopes it didn't get screwed up further, or would you prefer that I create an alias and purchase the team when the league rolls and the budgets will automatically reset for me with no hassle?

I'd like to help but it turns out that when I try to do that somebody who disagrees with me will just point out that I have a 45-win season to my record and ergo every and any opinion I have about the game is completely wrong and stupid.

I see you've been here before....;-)

I'm implying that this season is free for you. Complaining about free is kinda hokey.

To "reset" your budgets, create another username before the season ends, have ADMIN transfer to that username and then purchase next season. You'll get to increase your budget to 14m.

Well, you can do what you want. You just need to be aware that when you pick up a team for free, you pick up the constraints that come along with a free team. Such as its budget. So what you want is to have your cake and eat it, too.

Mike I wasn't complaining about this season at all. I realize this season is free. I just don't understand why I should be held to a different standard than a new owner next season. It looks like I will have to create an alias to get this sorted out.
1/19/2010 8:29 PM
Because you won't appear to be a new owner. You got this team and I assume you're making some moves for the future. So you won't be a new owner. You'll be a returning owner.

I have sympathy for timf's plight. There is no other situation in which I would encourage someone to create an alias, but this is the one. As a relatively new user, you shouldn't care about having to start a new player record over this. I think it's stupid to punish people for taking over trainwreck franchises

How is getting the first season of a team for free being "punished"?
1/19/2010 8:56 PM
Or let me put it this way: you can choose between paying $24.95 for your first season and start with a default budget, or pay $0.00 for your first season and inherit the existing budget as your starting point.

Which do you choose?
1/19/2010 8:59 PM
It's not getting the team for free that is the punishment. The punishment is in the budgets, which just so happens to be the topic of this thread. You don't seem to get that and all you see is the 'free' season. You can't even call it a season because I took over the team after the trade deadline had passed so I wasn't even able to make trades to improve the team.
1/19/2010 9:03 PM
Besides that, we've already established a way around it so why not just reset the budgets and forget having to go around it by creating an alias?
1/19/2010 9:15 PM
How 'bout you just pay for your team in the first place?

When you get something for free, don't complain about it.

Don't pretend you didn't think that it was a great deal to learn the game for free, and save yourself $14.95... or whatever the 1st season "deal" is.

iain I took over an abandoned team that was in ruins. Now I'm restricted in my INTL scouting budget. Maybe you should follow the conversation before opening your mouth. I have an easy fix but it seems to be a stupid way to do it.
