I understand that, but your conference only accounts for around 65% of your games pre-tourney, assuming you make it to the CT.

You want us to believe that you went 25-4 with a top-50 non-con, with no losses to the crap teams in your conference, and only had a 74 RPI? Sorry, not believing that for a second. Unless (1) your entire conference went winless against their non-con, or (2) your non-con wasn't actually good and just beat up on sims, upping your SoS during non-con, then they got trashed during conference, I don't believe that you had a good non-con schedule last season.

To be 25-4 and only have a 74 RPI, you'd have to have at best a mid-100s SoS.

1.) Last year you had a 74 RPI = your 14th seed
2.) Just because you win 7 games doesn't mean you get an auto-rank
3.) You only beat 1 Top 50 RPI team
4.) The ranked teams you played, so far are over ranked (not saying they are not good and won't be great teams just so far they are 4-3, and 3-4 with their records)

5.) Wait until your 14-0 or 15-0 before your saying why am I not ranked

Note: I would be if you win your next 3 games in non-con that you will be ranked going into conference play
Here is an exact example of why there is a lot of grief on the message boards about newbies asking vets to "prove things" or people getting into arguments. You could have stated your reasoning without the obnoxious "laughter."

FWIW, I don't want to make it seem like I think you're a liar, I don't.

My only point is that with the conference you have, you're going to need to schedule a top twenty schedule or go undefeated like you're doing to have an upper-tier RPI.

That's the downside of being in a weak conference. This past season in Iba, my E. TN St. team was in a conf with only 2 other human coaches. I needed a 24-5 record with 31 RPI and about a 20-game W streak heading into the NT to get a 4 seed. I had more wins than the 3 teams seeded higher in my bracket, but they were the 5, 6, and 7 RPI rated teams. The moral of the story is, a good record does not always = good RPI. If you're going to be in a weak conf and want to improve your chances of getting in the NT w/out having to win the CT, then you need to play a tough NC schedule and try to break even or better there and go close to undefeated in conf play.

I can actually back up his claim on the Top 50 RPI pre-conference play. I am in the same conference as ermackey.

Fair enough, ard, like I said in the post after, I really didn't mean to come off like he was lying (although I realize I did).

It was more about needing to schedule better than "in the top fifty" to sustain with the sims you guys have.

If he wants to have be an at-large with that conference, he is going to need to have an elite non-con schedule, or go undefeated. You can lose 4 games against an above average schedule with the conference you guys play in.

isack24 - I understand. I'm just saying that what he was saying is true. It is just hard to get a good RPI and SOS in a weaker conference, which we are in right now with only three human coaches and all rebuilding.

Top 50 RPI? So what? No offense but even having a top 40 rpi wouldn't make me change my mind on this. If he had Top 25 or so then, yes maybe I would argue he could have a case for an 8-10 seed, but who cares, Top 50 RPI pre-conference? That doesn't show much at all, except that he didn't schedule properly for that season.

Oh yeah, didn't see that, I thought he said top-50 SoS.

Yeah, I'm doubting that he had a top-50 SoS, and even then, with that conference he would need top-25.

I have had a team come into conf play with #1 RPI and a HUGE lead on #2, I was at around .72 and dwindle all the away to the mid-teens and then back up to 1 after winning the title. Sometimes even the Top 25 RPI won't help, you have to understand what effect your conference will have on your own numbers and use that to schedule properly.

Good point Z. Not to change the topic too much but this can be an issue in scheduling in any conference. In lower conferences it is pretty simple, schedule hard to make up for weak conference games, but what I have seen is that teams in tough conferences tend to schedule easy in non-con and when all 12 do this it brings everyone down. So eventhough your conference schedule is difficult your SoS may not reflect it accuratly due to everyones weak non-con schedule.

That isn't quite 100% accurate, if teams lose those easy games then yes you are right, if they win them then it only improves all their numbers.

That's true. My VaTech team in Crum Is a prime example. I got the job too late to make a schedule and got a terrible SoS. I lost one game and can't get my RPI under 40. The point is there is a fine line between scheduling winnable non-con games and scheduling easy non-con games.
