Besides just getting lucky, of course. Which is a distinct possibility.

We have a winner.

Why is a guy with 73 complete HBD seasons asking if a guy has potential to be a big leaguer?

can this guy's splits, control, etc overcome his low pitch ratings?

My scouts missed a couple STUD hitters, so I ended up choosing him with the first pick.
yes, but I'd say you're moving him up too fast, he probably doesn't belong in High A right now.

I'd say that's debatable

How many IP before it's something other than luck, hartjh14?

He could have a billion and I'd still call it luck. That guy sucks.

Tony Unamuno

vs RH just over 50, great pitches, doing OK so far in ML.

he's better than zbrent's guy (that 1P is nice), but still don't expect that ERA to continue

I think the truth is with any player who is close you have to give him a chance. I had a layer a few seasons back who was on my ML roster and did really well for 3 or 4 seasons despite not having solid ML ratings. he out performed many players who were rated higher.

What's wrong with going with the "hot hand"?

Developers have said that streaks and "clutch" play aren't hidden anywhere, but I don't see the problem with playing the guys who are performing over the guys who aren't.

Build your team based on ratings, of course, but once you're playing games, the ratings are secondary to performance, imho.

The bubble will burst, eventually, but why not ride it while you can?

That's like saying "whats wrong with riding the hot hand in a series of coin flips?"

Tails comes up 5 times in a row, why not ride it while you can? I hope you see the problem with this logic. You said it right off the bat, there are no streaks or "hot hands".

right but if a guy is playing well abpove his ratings why not keep playing him ( while resting the better player in the process) and then play the better playing at the 1st sign of the bubble bursting. seems like common sense to me.
