Texas Tech for sure. But even if we have an off year, we'll pick it up... I think.

And hey, an off year or two for the Big 12 would maybe get me up to a high prestige faster, right?

Seven games in, I'm 3-4 and RPI 199 - not bad for my first year on the job. The problem: I'm currently fifth in my division, and #6 is none other than Texas, who will be picking themselves out of their slump eventually. So I'm gonna be last, but hey, I expected that.

Both of my freshmen (and Davis, for that matter - do I try to redshirt him next year when he's one of three senior SGs? Probably.) are up >30 points, though, which is great.

Got my recruiting map set up: the smallest circles are 70 miles, the next 150, the next 360.

Corn you don't need a map, just recruit exclusively internationals, like Hawai'i does :) Its going to get crowded fast once Air Force gets going. At least no one has taken Tulsa yet, and Missouri-KC and Denver are still empty.

That map's useful - for instance, there's a recruit from Altamont, KS, and the map tells me he's within 150 of us and Kansas, but he's outside of the 70-mile radius of you and Kansas, so I'm not at a big distance disadvantage.

Just a giant prestige disadvantage.

Also, that map told me I can stop worrying about daalter - I hadn't realized how far northwest he is. I should be treating him like he's Gonzaga, not like he's a local threat.

I'm going to use this thread to try to establish a connection (or disprove the connection) between OOC W/L and end-of-season RPI.

Interesting idea. Have you noticed Bradley's record (8-1) / RPI (31)....would not have been THAT bad of a job, huh?

Hahahano. Gimme a few seasons.
2/17/2010 2:22 PM
I am sure you'll get there...I just wanted to mention it since I pushed you to take the job...I wasn't full of crap when I said it was a easy turn around job for a good coach.

Here we are after 10:

My conference schedule starts with two blowouts - at Texas, vs. Texas A&M - but then I'll play at Iowa State and host Baylor. I'd love to get a win from one of those two games.

My possibly-winnable games:
02/22/10 am       at Iowa St.       4-6       191       68       emy1013       13-25
02/23/10 am       Baylor           6-4       25       52       mamxet       25-38
03/01/10 am       at Colorado       3-7       276       186       esteinle       12-25
03/05/10 am       Kansas St.       3-7       196       82       aikdog       13-21

It kills me that I have to play Colorado and Iowa State on the road - those would've been close at my place - but I'll need some luck to win them on the road. If I can win two of those four, that would give me (with the one win I expect pure luck to get me in the other 12 games) seven wins, but my goal for the season is eight.

Eight wins means <20 losses... so let's hope for either a 3-1 in the four target games or a second big upset.

Well, just like the real Cowboys, my team got the win against Baylor at home. We took TAMU to overtime, too... but still no road wins.

Through 14 games (we're at RPI 259, so we're not going anywhere and this is gonna be my worst season ever,) there are a few reasons to be optimistic. All four of my recruits appear at least once on the conference leaderboard. A sort of my team by overall rating no longer puts the 8 Sim recruits in the top 8 spots. Warf, Wood, and (JuCo) Davis have all gained at least 50 points - Warf has gained 60. Press IQs are now all at C or better.

A look ahead to my next four games:

Blowout, blowout, big loss, tough but possibly winnable game. I'd really like to at least give Kari a run for her money down here in Stillwater.

Second quarter of the conference schedule, 1-3 again. I used the TTU and Oklahoma games as a chance to log lots of minutes for Warf and Wood, and we got beat at home by PIT-bound Nebraska. But we...

Beat Texas in Stillwater! That's TEXAS! Texas (A+ prestige, slumping heavily) got burned by some luck - I set my distro to shoot heavily from outside and got lucky when the Longhorns decided to play a -3. Gave up 50% shooting playing a -4 defense, but in return, actually did pretty well on the glass.

The clincher: the Cowboys shot .769 (10-13) from behind the arc and .478 (11-23) from shorter range. It's a freak result, but I'll definitely take it.

Now I can beat K State at home, I'll need just one more win for the season to keep my team from taking a 20th loss, though my current worst season ever is 13-15 (done twice,) so I'm still going to blow THAT record out of the water.

Through 18, I'm sitting at .333 and RPI 266. But all I'm aiming for is >/=19 losses, though I'd look to get my RPI under 259 (that is, out of the bottom fifth, where the top fifth are NT-caliber RPIs.)

Warf is up 77 points (including 42 in ATH+SPD+STAM,) while Wood and Davis are up 63 each. A sort of my team by ATH lists my four recruits as #s 1, 2, 3, 5.
