By definition, most commishes are going to be considered dicks.

If you HAVE to enforce standards/guidelines, it's because someone isn't following them. That person is going to think the commish is a dick.

But 31 others won't.

double true!

It seems as though it's pretty clear that the people that have posted opinions so far feel that the commish should place the good of the league over the good of his team. Is there anyone that disagrees with this?
2/12/2010 9:20 AM
yeah, the people who won't post their opinions in this thread

Okay, I guess I deserved that for not wording that well.

Is anyone that believes that commishes should worry about their team first that is willing to explain why the commish should worry about his own team first and the good of the league after that?

maybe a commish wont want to raise an issue about something because he thinks it'll give the world a bad rep.
2/12/2010 9:40 AM
I'll make the argument because it can be made.

A commish does most of the heavy lifting to fill a world. The commish gets all the crap when one member falls "out of line." The commish gets a whole $5 for this while paying the same as everyone else to play the game.

Why shouldn't he want to build the best team he can within the rules of the world?

I'm more referring to a commish doing things that are bad for the league as a whole but help his own team, and defending it by saying he is going to do what's best for his team first regardless of what it does to the league.

If it's "bad for the league", it should be against the league standards/guidelines. If it's not, you should re-examine your participation in that world if it's a problem for you.
2/12/2010 9:49 AM
That's the thing I'd like to see addressed. The only way to deal with a bad commish it to quit the world
2/12/2010 9:53 AM
If a commish is playing within the guidelines of the world, that doesn't make him a bad commish. You should probably quit the world because they have poor standards. And, if the commish is enforcing those poor standards that the world accepts, how is he at fault?

Hardly anyone feels the commishes have too much common sense, but many feel that some of them don't have enough.

With common sense and a sense of fairness to all, there is no conflict between what is good for your team and what is good for the league. That sort of distinction is made every day in the real world by men and women who routinely act for the good of their organization (social, work, neighborhood, governmental, the list goes on and on) even when their own selfish interests might dictate a different action.

I wonder if games such as HBD could ever serve as a training ground for such common sense and fairness that would benefit users in their real life? Nah, that might be expecting too much.

Thanks for the input, snake.
