The Glory of Their Times is a great book. I can't believe I it off my list. My memory is getting as leaky as their gloves. I bought my first copy in the `80's when they published the expanded edition with the additions of Babe Herman, Hank Greenberg and a few others.

Check out Pride of Havana.

Oh yeah...Lords of the Realm by John Helyar is an amazing and in-depth look at baseball's inner workings since the Reds became professionals.

I'll need to reread that. When I read Glory of Their Times the first time, I thought it was an awful lot of the same thing....each story was very similar.

I second the recommendation on Crazy 08. Great baseball reading, entertaining social history.

Reading D.H.'s October 1964 right now about the Cardinals and Yankees and am enjoying the background on a number of players I have in a couple progressives.

Read a book last month on the Red Sox/Red's series -- Game Six? -- that I really enjoyed.

Snyder's tome, A Well-Paid Slave, is out from the library just waiting for me...

Just found this today in hardcover at the Thrift store for $1.49 so I picked up.

You definitely should check it out again... I think there's a lot more variety in their stories than there would be in the stories of the guys coming up these days. Plus, as it was all transcribed from actual oral interviews with those players, you can often really hear their individual voices. Ever since reading that, Sam Crawford has been one of my favourite players.

One day I gotta get around to purchasing the CD of the recorded interviews.

I concur on "Glory of Their Times" - awesome read. Also, a book by Daniel Okrent and Steve Wulf called, "Baseball Anecdotes." It's a great collection of short stories and tidbits about many of the games great players through the years.

I'm just finishing up rereading John McGraw's bio right now. I read it right out of high school 21 years ago and just dug it up in a box. Sure did get more out of it this time. Chock full of all your favorite sim fellas.

Catcher by Peter Morris was pretty darn good, and I plan to get his other books about early baseball as well.
