'89-'93 and '93-'96 here. Part of what makes the Terps' success magic now for me is seeing the early Gary years. And being around for Walt Williams who stuck it out for the full four years when we were on probation, lost schols, and had no postseason eligibility. Always have a soft spot in my heart for The Wizard who really sacrificed a lot for MD.

I was living in DC in '02 when we won it all and the only games I didn't go to in the tourney were the two right there in DC. The trip to the Orange Dome was awesome and then being at the Final Four in Atlanta was an experience matched only by watching my kid be born.

looking at the history, it seems that they made it easier to get to BCS schools quicker in recent worlds

... who is named LaRon Jasikevicius Cheeznsweet.

(And yes, I had to double check that spelling.)

Smith - Davis Season 16-Present 1 National Championship, 2 National Runnerups, 1 Final 4, 5 Elite 8s

Davis is clearly one of the top 5 coaches in Smith world. And Maryland has been a fixture atop the dynasty rankings for Smith.

This info provided by...the coach at UNC.

I'd like to get Maryland at some point I got beat out in Knight but at that point i was still learning D1 so it probably wasn't the end of the world. I went there in 91 and grew up watching when they were on tv and Listening to a boatload of games on the radio. I'm in NC now luckily still get to watch alot of their games being in the middle of ACC country

You don't know how hard it was for me to type that. My fingers actually went into mini-convulsions and knotted up on me and when I re-read it my eyes started to bleed.

Plus, after further consideration, I have decided that as a Duke fan, I'd rather coach the Central Iraq University for the Not-So-Athletically Gifted then to have to coach those bums from 8 miles down Tobacco road........

Strange, I went the opposite way. Lived in Raleigh for years (actually got accepted to NC State, Duke, and UNC but ended up going to college elsewhere for some various personal reasons) and moved to Maryland (the Baltimore area).

I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that living in NC significantly trumped living around Baltimore (just my opinion, of course). Made an even bigger jump a short time later, to Germany wearing the Army greens. Two years there and I never wanted to leave. When I retire, Germany is on my VERY short list of places to live.

yeah I don't know if a Duke fan should be posting on this thread...I don't know about the old timers, but the Terps of my generation loathe you guys far more than the Tarheels (for whom I can muster up a mild distaste, if pressed). Granted, K is a better coach than Roy, but I hate him and everything that Duke stands for with a passion that surprises me sometimes.

Also, I like living in Baltimore.

I almost posted this same thing but didn't feel like potentially being taken as a jerk. Not saying you are but... :) I hate Dook with the heat of 10,000 suns. Zero chance I could ever take over Dook.

And dalter - i love the Runi reference. We always just called him: Rooney YesILikeCabbages b/c it was easier than spelling out that last name.

Nothing against Baltimore really, just a little too crowded for my taste. Definitely a lot to do though. My parents and both of my brothers and their families still live around Baltimore and they all love it too, but like I said it's just a bit too crowded for me. Guess I'm just the oddball of the family (insert obligatory Duke comment/joke/insult!). :^)

Wouldn't have EVER taken it that way cheez. Unlike some of these clowns that run around here, I don't get offended very easily. Guess that comes from working in a Fed prison. I've probably heard every insult ever made (and some that don't even exist yet). After awhile they don't even register anymore. Long story short, I'm a big boy, fire away with the Duke insults!!!!!

But, being that this IS a Maryland thread, I'll give you Terp fans the respect this thread deserves and take my Duke loving self somewhere else.

FEAR THE TURTLE!!!!!!!!

I am not a Maryland fan so I probably shouldn't be here, but I have to say I do have a distaste for Duke. I just haven't liked them since Christian Laettner should've been thrown out of a game that he hit the winning shot of arguably the greatest college game of all-time. I did like Duke prior to that game. Haven't liked them since. I am not saying they are not good, I just don't like them. Their coach is good too but I don't care for him either. Rant over lol. No offense, emy, I would like to continue our rivalry in D2 Phelan. Wouldn't want to disrespect you

I would love to end up at Maryland in one of my worlds. BTW, Cliff Tucker's shot against Georgia Tech was as clutch as it gets.
