need help with waives/release/desginate Topic

i'm guessing we're talking about This Guy

solid pitcher, but people will shy away from his age, health, and contract status. try posting him in world chat and see if anyone's desperate enough for pitching such that they'll take a flier on him via trade.

my problem here that i need help with is he has optinos , so i am not allowed to waive him, if i designate him and he is claimed do i have to pay his contract for suqsequent years?

thanks

Why don't people read what he's already posted?

Is everyone so busy trying to prove they're HBD-smart that they just can't understand the question, read the response and go from there?

You answer is not an option. It only becomes an option if you first take the step of demoting him, which you didn't mention.

Further, it still isn't the "correct" answer. There is no reason to demote him then waive him under these circumstances. Designate him, with waivers, instead.

He should try trading him first.

I didn't have to mention it. I assume people know a little something about the game. You're assuming they know nothing and thus every minute detail must be explained as if you are speaking to a 4 year old. A dumb one.

Had he came back and said "I can't waive him because he has options", I'd have said "You have to send him to the minors".

I tend to answer their immediate questions. If they have more, they can ask them. You have to learn somewhere.

Here's why I say "demote" instead of "designate": A designated player goes into a holding period. In the end, he's going to AAA if no one claims him. If I'm paying him, I want to utilize him.

The "correct" answer is this:

You don't have to strip your BL team of every BL player to rebuild. If you can't trade him, use him to actually win games. Giving away BL players because you're "rebuilding" is a tanker move. No one likes a tanker.

I care about my minors as much as anyone, but I sincerely doubt you really advocate risking a demotion penalty (on a veteran who is unlikely to recover from any hit and who the OP wants to trade) in favor of the potential help of a SP in a single game (since the player is locked in the "holding period" only as long as it takes him to clear waivers.)

My answer prior to your post is how I'd respond if we're supposed to elaborate.

As far as demotion penalties, I don't get my panties all bunched up over a point here or there like most of you do. If I demote someone, I don't deem them crucial to my success/failure. If they're not crucial to my success/failure now, they won't be in the future.

a demotion penalty makes the contract even less bearable...if you want to demote him just so he can take the penalty and clear waivers, he ends up with the same problem as before but worse.

putting him to use at the ML level while trying to dump him on someone via trade is a much better plan.
