Not DITRs, are they ZITRs or TITRs? Topic

Perennial Fireman of they Year candidate Jose Martin was a true DITR

As presently structured there is No Chance "you'll win something substantial". No one has and no one will. Just BUMs. If you don't want it changed - then get rid of it. Stop wasting everyones time, including the computers that generate this garbage.

Not everything in this game works - this is one that does not. Fix it or deep six it - just stop pretending it works.

And by the way I don't play powerball either - it is a suckers bet regardless of the jackpot. A way for the government to take money away from those who can least afford to lose it. How much have you lost over the years?

I would call sdhizzle's DITR "something substantial". His free lottery ticket was a winner.

What would you call him, griv?

I pretty much consider DITR lifetime minor leaguers. I don't think I have ever seen one of my DITR make the majors. I did trade for a Catcher that I thought might of been a DITR and had a good career for me, but when I asked the previous owner he did not remember.

I just don't understand the "get rid of them" argument.

I've never had one that I've taken all the way to the majors. Yet. I've had a couple of them who just fell short. I believe I traded one in one world who made it to the majors with another team. And I have two of them right now in Coop who probably will get some ML playing time eventually.

Most of them are crap. No argument. But some of them do become interesting. I just don't see the logic to "doing away with them".

I sure do hope the forum jinx applies in this circumstance.

I also see no reason to just get rid of them, it would be exciting to see a rare instance where someone besides a Catcher or reliever is a legit major leaguer. Have some of those mid 60 projected overall players become mid 70's projected players.

This guy could have been an awesome closer. I just used him as a SUA.

The "get rid of them" argument is a poorly disguised "Make all of them future HOFers" argument.

They are, quite frankly, something for nothing. If your something is really nothing, it's not like you lost. If your lottery ticket doesn't hit, you lost because you paid for it. You do nothing, absolutely nothing, to get a DITR. It's free. And it should be fun. I look forward to them even though my winners are few and far between.
3/11/2010 8:13 PM
Apparently you are easily pleased - I don't look forward to them because they are not what was originally advertised and boring. If they were all future HOFers that would be just as boring.

I prefer to work for what I get but I also want to get what was advertised.

So either fix Ditrs so I can rail about the Rage getting an upgraded player they clearly do not deserve due to their inept management. Or get rid of the feature as it presently is incarnate since it is a waste of time and effort.

Or . . .

You can just delete without reading the DITR emails that you get, just like I delete without reading the minor league coaches reports that we get a couple of times a season.

Problem solved (for you).

The rest of us can continue to look forward to the AM2 cycle at the end of the all-star break. You know, just in case.

FYI . . . I just promoted the first of my DITR's to ever make it to one of my major league rosters in Coop. He'll probably get a handful of AB's, and maybe even a couple of starts at the very end of the season after my playoff seed is locked up.

"The idea behind DITRs is, on the whole, see a small group of players jump one level of skill with an even smaller subset make two skill level jumps. For instance, an organizational SS could become a fringe big leaguer. A fringe big leaguer could make the jump to regular. And every now and then, you could see a fringe big leaguer make the jump to All-Star." - from the developer chat

I have NEVER seen a fringe ML player become a regular ML position player nevermind a positional player jump to all-star status. What we have is an occasional RP or catcher who becomes a Barely Usable MLer (BUMs). Make it work or get rid of it.

Or someone post the fringe positional player who became an ALL-Star through the DITR process.

I see griv's point as being that the DITR is a feature of the game that could work a lot better, being something more than slightly above insignificant. With some thought put into it, i would agree, he's probably right.

I dont see where he is claiming that all his late rounders should be all-stars or Albert Pujoli. Playing the complaining/whining card in such a fantastic way really downgrades this forum.
3/11/2010 10:04 PM
Maybe the "get rid of them" argument implies that if this is a feature that doesn't actually do anything, it's better not to have it...rather than give new users a false impression of a game with many cool features, and have them quit after they realize some of these features are just window dressing.

just a thought.
3/11/2010 10:07 PM
Uh, I've posted two examples of it actually doing something and gave two names of other players who became BL-quality(although I never used them).

What part of that did you miss?
