gusv, with the pick your own you will get to choose your AAA from actual players. Getting 4 more AAA pitchers with the possibility that none of them can contribute good innings in this high cap may bear no fruit for the AAA teams...

Cubs

Actually, the Cubs have already won a World Series in this league. I'd like to try and break a new team through. Give me the Braves.
3/19/2010 11:48 AM
This was a great switch. I think this Braves team could easily win 100+ games...

1 - OF Tommy Holmes
2 - C King Kelly
3 - 2B Rogers Hornsby
4 - OF Babe Ruth
5 - 3B Chipper Jones
6 - OF Al Simmons
7 - 1B Hank Aaron
9 - SS Walt Weiss

SP1 - Ed Walsh
SP2 - Cy Young
Long A - Greg Maddux
Setup A - John Smoltz
Setup A - Pat Jarvis
Setup A - Hoyt Wilhelm
Closer A - Jake Northrop

Alright guys, come and get me...

Reflecting on the subject of AAA teams, when I had the "Marlinbacks" a few seasons ago, I felt my biggest need was to get one additional quality starter (PP's, RP's, and benchers were fine). The last 4 expansion teams have a limited choice on that. Perhaps current count of 6-4 is fine, but tweek rooks to WAA ...

I think the AAA is fine where it is. gusv, you're a HOFer and I'm sure you know by now that there is almost NO chance you're going to get a quality starter from your AAA. Furthermore, in a league setup like this it would be supremely unfair if you did. If half the teams in the league could save at least $6 or $7 million on an SP they suddenly have that much extra salary space as compared to the non-AAA teams. In a league like this ($120 million cap, decent number of options for most of the positions for every team), I figure even above average AAA are going to be well below league average. They do allow AAA teams to get away from drafting Long B, pinch hitters, and backups for offensive players. That's a big enough advantage as it is...

I would also say that anyone who thinks the AAA teams can't compete with the rules the way they are has a real problem learning from history. Most of the champions have been AAA teams. Why would you want to make those teams stronger?

Arvid has tweeked the AAA settings throughout the league history. They were originally WAA I believe and that was a pretty large advantage.

The only thing I can think of as a reason to change it again though is that with the most recent salary adjustments pitching is a bit cheaper now and the older teams can load their pitching staffs with the old time studs and have a little more than before for a solid lineup.

The issue for me is that not all teams are created equal. Sure the Marlins, Rays, Rockies, and Diamondbacks are going to be short on stud pitchers, but a team like the Mets can roll out Seaver, Gooden, Pedro, Santana and Saberhagen to name a few. The Astros can go wtih Clemens, Scott, Sutton, JR Richard, Gooden, etc...

So if you make a change to help the true little guys compete you might end up making those top tier "AAA elig" teams too strong.

I try not to be one to complain though so whatever the majority decides i'm cool with. I'll just adapt.

I think the biggest differance is the change in WIS salary structure. The Brewers use to be very competitive but since player values went down with the newer teams that use AAA putting the highest paid player at each position just can't match the old teams that have a bunch of 8+ mil players to choose from. The AAA really don't do much since your whole roster is filled already just trying to reach 120 mil. I would love to see it dropped to 100mil and keep the above aaa for the young teams.
