I'm not a programmer so I dont know how to do it...but off the top of my head here is what I would do. Each year, you take the top 5 at each position (rankings during recruiting) and they are eligible to leave early. You then have a lottery of these players with juniors having a higher percentage chance to be selected and then at random x number of players are selected to leave early. Each year you would have the same # of EE and it would not be determined by which team did well but by how the player was recruited. You could have a factor that increased a players chance based on teams post-season success. But, teams could lose no more than 2 players.

So for example, if you used the top 5 at each position, you'd have 75 players eligible for the EE each year (25 FR, 25 SO, 25 JR). 15 would be selected with JRs having the highest chance of going and teams that advanced would also have an increased factor.

I knew just by the thread title that my team would get mentioned.

I've had 23 early entries over the past 11 seasons at UNC in Knight. Based on the whining I've seen about early entries, some of you would be crying yourself to sleep every night in my shoes.

An believe me, I bet its cramped in his shoes. YOu can't really fit in there very well. There is only room for him.

There's definitely not room for you.

Hey LM2...I wasnt trying to single you out as I know you have lost tons of EE. I was just trying to make a point that EE seems to random. I will say that I am not recruiting the same type of players that you are in that world though.

I just admitted as much, didn't I?
4/26/2010 8:56 PM
You did, but my comment was specific and not general.

Hey, I wouldn't even pretend to be in your stratosphere. I wasn't intending to do anything but compliment you. SOrry if it appeared otherwise.

It's random for specific players, but not nearly as much as you think overall. In Knight, for instance, Seton Hall has had ~ 15 EEs over the past 11 seasons. They're a close second, but then it's a significant drop-off from there.

at last count, i believe there are 68 EE eligible for the 2010 draft. they range from the obvious to schools like Creighton, Oakland, New Mexico State, BYU etc. There are highly recruited HS guys (Wall), guys that blossomed in college (Fredette) and guys that have had problems at their respective school (Pope). They whole spectrum is covered.

to want some sort of science in the EE process is asking for the impossible and would be more hurtful to this game than the current system.

for some to say that the EE system is broke and its a known fact and if you don't agree then you're an idiot is the intolerance of difference of opinion that has ruined these forums for the most part.

on another note, why do guys talk about leaving HD instead of just doing it? are they looking for a farewell tour or something?

i know, i know, just because it happens in real life doesn't mean its good for the game. that is, unless its good for your respective team, then reality is wonderful.

nam you can't even begin to use this years nbadraft #s for numerous reasons a) IRL players can come back. you can't in HD b) the CBA is the reason for the huge influx of EEs IRL, something that doesn't pertain to HD at all.

You just can't use this year as a mark for anything. sorry.

I tend to agree with Namshub in general, but Z has VERY valid points about why many players are declaring this season. He's right, because of the CBA situation in the NBA, I don't think you can use this year's real life early entries as a good example.

Also, I just wish (and keep striving) to get to the point where I have LM's problem with early entries. I know he's had a ton of them and if anyone has a right to complain about team's getting decimated, it's him. But damn, the guy is so good that he just reloads every season. It's hard to imagine how good his teams would be if early entries were eliminated from the game like some have suggested.

No disrespect meant to anyone else, because there are a lot of fine coaches playing HD, but in my opinion LM is the best. Billy_G is right there also, and OR (although he seems to have slightly lost interest) is still in the running, but LM is the best, no questions asked, no doubt in my mind about it.

I consider myself a decent coach (and managed to knock LM out of the first round of the Rupp D2 NT this season, patting myself on the back and bragging a little), but I can only dream about getting to the levels that he's consistently reached in a bunch of different worlds. Sorry if this sounds like I'm bowing down to him, but I am and I freely admit it. He's the king.
