Opportunity for New World Topic

I sitemailed you that thread link. Good luck.

We really dont have a history, but when owners from both in the league and outside the league sitemailed me with concerns, I had to take that into account.

And like I said. I have been far from a perfect owner. I had a couple month lapse myself. So I do understand things come up. I just made the judgement that you werent fully caught up from those issues to take on another team. You also stated that you were dropping one of the teams and thats why they were still on auto-pilot and a WIS requirement for joining was that you couldnt drop a team.

I found the link and posted my interest. Hopefully will get the opportunity. Thx.

I stand by my decisions, as you obviously do. I guess I was just more burned to find out that, even though I was initially in, then overturned, you had 2 chances to include me on a team that has been abandoned before the season even started, and you didn't even bother to respond. That's why I feel that, unless you are the privileged few who spend an obscene amount of time on the forums getting to know other owners, than you stand just below a snowball's chance in h-e-double hockey sticks of getting into such a rare opportunity such as been presented in Kenny Powers, and now Billy Beane world.

I am commish of Moneyball, which may be one of the most "exclusive" worlds out there as we actually have a 7 member committee that reviews each applicant and each of us has our own personal crietria we look at. Some of us look at wins and losses, look at whether there have ever been any issues reported in other worlds..look at whether someone's success has been exclusively in weaker public worlds...and look at how many leagues the person is in currently (if you are already in 10 other worlds will you have enough time to deal with an 11th?). I can also honestly say that whether or not the person is active in the forums has NEVER been raised by one of our committee members (though if you have been acting like a jerk or an *** in the forums that will be raised..but a lack of posting has NEVER been an issue). What we want in Moneyball is the top owners, people that have had success in some of the top worlds and will be able to be competitive in what may be the toughest world to be consistently successful in.

Yeah, despite my obscene amount of time in the forums, I've never rejected an owner for NOT posting. That's not even something I'd consider as a criteria.

Understood. I don't think I was implying that the decison to exclude me was solely based on the fact that I am not an active forum poster (as stated above, my communication skills are elementary, at best). It may be nothing more than a theory on my part. I have made huge effort to focus getting into the 'more prestigious' worlds. I focus on private worlds over public worlds because, as we know, more competition, better owners (for the most part), and better dedication among owners. I have been burned by quite a few leagues where I thought was going to be a good league, only to be slightly better than a good public world.

Again, I don't want to put myself on the defense here. My only goal of this post was to find out how I, an average owner with little networking skills and a love for the game, could ever get the opportunity to join a world from inception. I know, for sure, that there are owners out there that have spent a TON more time and money on this than I probably have (or maybe ever will). But I am here for the long haul and those worlds where I have committed to more than 1 season I committed because I like the owners and the league is competitive.

I've never remembered facing either MikeT or csherwood (though would love the opportunity). If anything, I could learn a lot from you guys who are more active on the forum. I just hope that, whatever reason dmurphy had in the past, isn't something that sticks, because if you talk to the owners of the worlds I am committed to long-term (ARomano, Jersey League, Jaha just to name a few) I think you will get that I am an active owner that is more a positive for that world than a negative.

here is my unsolicited 2 cents:

You currently have 11 active teams ... you have been in 29 different worlds ... if I was the commish of a private world (whether new or established), you would not be an owner I would consider admitting into my world based on those two facts alone

I know that is not something you want to hear, but so it goes ... it is hard to "know" a random screen name here at WiS ... and easy for any owner to write paragraphs about how committed they will be to said world ... and how what they did in the past shouldn't be held against them, and all the reasons they 1-and-doned worlds ... but actions speak way louder than words when it comes to picking which strangers people want to "trust"

In other words, rat, get another alias and start over.

rat, you and I were in both Sandberg and ABU for one season each. However, these are two of many many "one and done" seasons on your resume. I agree completely with green, as a private world commish I wuold not want you in my league because I would be very worried that you would be a one and done owner again, and private worlds want owners that are in it for the long haul.

funny Braziman

green -- I understand that my history has brought some questions. However, I have 2 answers to that debate:

1. If a commissioner does his due diligence, shouldn't he/she make the effort to ask about said history? If the demand is high, than you could simply say that there were others who applied before you and it's tough to debate that.

2. I turn it around on the commissioners that boast a good league, but turns out to be a bust (which some of my one-and-dones have been a result of).

Bottom line -- I love this game and will play almost any/all opportunities if given the chance. I've told the commissioners who are heading up these new leagues my biggest desire to be involved in a league at inception. They have all the right to ask me questions if they feel it is in the best interest in the league.

I would like to be considered for a brand new league where do I find one that is forming or looking to form and would I quality based on my history ?

more unsolicited 2 cents:

what makes you think that a new world is going to be some magical Utopia? ... you have a clear history of flaking out on worlds that don't match up with whatever you are looking for ... why do you think a new world will automatically provide that for you?

I will acknowledge that new worlds do provide some semblance of a "level palying field" in that there are no extreme talent imbalances like those found in some poorly run worlds ... but a new world can have a lousy commish, other owners who rub you the wrong way, etc.

Plus (note I haven't been in a new world since the early days of HBD) I would expect that new worlds a mix of experienced owners and new owners could be especially erratic as the experienced owners jockey to mold their team into what they know to be a good HBD squad while the new owners fumble aroung trying to get their bearings

I never implied that it was some magical Utopia. I've only expressed a desire to play in one. For me, it would be the sense of being a part of something from the beginning and having fun with it. ALL worlds have the scenarios you describe (lousy commish, owners that rub the wrong way, etc.). I know this.

I am not sure why you keep attacking me on this green. You only state problems, not solutions. Going to the extreme in labeling me 'flaky' when we have never been in a league together (and it doesn't sound like I will ever get the 'privilege' to do so if you have your say). So it really shouldn't matter to you, I guess?

All of this just makes me want to be in the same league as you.
