Some worlds are going to have ridiculously high HR numbers no matter what. Some worlds aren't. I'd suggest, if the numbers bother someone, that they seek out a world that somehow manages homers allowed(because that's really the issue).

Can someone please explain to my why my players MUST be taking steroids... and MUST use the humidor?

I'm interested in the overall prevalence of HRs after the update, but really my question was about how HRs were working particularly in hitters' ballparks, i.e. Madison, Durham, Santa Fe, Hartford...because I was getting the feeling that the game might have been re-tweaked in such a way that brought the overall numbers down, but exaggerated those numbers at the high end of the scale.

Just for the sake of argument, and we'll use round numbers and MG, let's say the average MLB team his 170 homers(2.1 per). MG hits 200.

That's an extra homer every 5.4 games. Is that really ridiculously insane? League leader hits less than 50. Each team hits an extra homer once a week. If you consider that MLB teams pay people to prevent homers and we're just playing a game for fun, I'd say those are pretty good results.

in MLB they also pay people to hit homers, but that is irrelevant...if you're okay with it, that's fine, but to pretend that it isn't a tremendous difference is skewing the numbers...the way you portray it, you almost wouldn't notice unless you were really paying attention, but i promise you people in real life started noticing when there was an extra HR/team every 5th game

I'm referring to the people running the team. You build or manage a team that gives up 250 homers a season in MLB, you're looking for a job. Do it in HBD and you can get another season for $24.95 just like the guy who built/managed a team that gave up 125 homers.

I hope that addresses " i promise you people in real life started noticing when there was an extra HR/team every 5th game" statement.

Take out the five worst from MG last season and we're down to 191 homers allowed per team. Now we're at one homer every 8 games.

By the way, those 5 teams averaged 95 losses.

Much of this is self-inflicted.

no it doesn't, but i'm not looking for an argument, my only point is that there is nothing realistic about the HR totals in HBD, i still love the game and will continue playing it for a long time, but i would prefer it if HRs were more realistic...when a quality world like MG, which has HR totals well below HBD average still has HR totals 17% greater than real life, i think that is a flaw in the game

A lot of it is owner decisions. I gave up 175. I play in a neutral park and tend to lean defensive. I don't play 1B in LF or DH at 1B. Not everyone in MG plays that way. If they did, the HR numbers would be lower.

I won't pretend that they are "realistic" but, if they reduce it by 17%, there are still going to be worlds that are 20% over. As an FYI, in S14 under the "old" engine, MG gave up 169 per team. The fix was in line with MLB. But people did not like that and they complained long and loud.

well playing players out of position shouldn't affect HR #s (aside from more PAs/G, which HBD does average 1 more per team per game, but some portion of that is due to more HRs as well as the worse defense)...the rest i completely agree with, much of the problem is user inflicted...but when admin states their goal is 2.4 HR/G, then it is way more than just user error...even they had used a goal of 2.25, which would have still been higher than MLB, it would have at least allowed the quality worlds to approach MLB-like #s

Actually, playing people out of position creates more plate appearances, which will lead to more opportunities to hit HRs. In addition to that, people are throwing pitchers that have no place on a ML team in the majors, plus people tend to pick HR parks. Add it all up and you get your answer.
